Summary

An outcast fighting for her future....

Thea Knight loves a spot of mischief. She especially loves her current mischief: masquerading as her sister, while finalizing her scheme to expose the dastardly knaves whose lies ruined her life.

Then big, bad-tempered Lord Luxborough upends her game by maneuvering her into marriage. But it's her sister’s name on the license, so the marriage won’t be valid. Thea’s idea? Keep pretending to be her sister until she can run away.

A recluse haunted by his past....

Rafe Landcross, Earl of Luxborough, has no love for mischief. Or marriage. Or people, for that matter. The last thing he wants is a wife - but if he marries, he’ll receive a large sum of much-needed money.

Then he learns that Thea Knight is using a false name. Rafe’s idea? Pretend he doesn’t know her true identity, marry her, and send her packing once the money is his.

A compelling attraction that changes their lives

But as passion ignites and secrets emerge, the mutual deception turns tricky fast. Rafe and Thea face irresistible temptations, unsettling revelations, and a countdown to the day when Thea must leave....

Fun, tender, and steamy, this Gothic-flavored historical romance tells of a fake marriage between a grumpy, scarred hero and a trickster heroine who reminds him how to play.

Fun romantic regency story with some racy bits!

A light listen, mostly enjoyable escapism although both heroine and hero are little annoying at times. She was a bit childish and he was rather stubborn in his guilt for his ex wife’s death but I think the point was the evened each other out in the end. Did enjoy the plays within the stories- very well done by the author. Narrator was good too.

Great plot…

What a great plot & twist

The author has a gift to creat wonderful storylines and one is spellbound

Could do with less of the boring sex scene - it takes away from the story and reminds of soft porn …

Enchanting escapism

Really lovely, warm and witty. Will not disappoint or fail to entertain.

But I do feel annoyed Audible is forcing me to write more than 15 words to allow me post a review. Sometimes, less is more Mr Audible, don't be so irritating.

Good story

It was an unusual story line, well read, just a bit too long for me.

Taming of the Merchant's Shrew

Well narrated, with what at times I wondered was an AI bot, but quirks and nuances only human-kind can project seep through despite the horrible "Americanisms" (ma and pa, should be mamma and pappa). English harness has blinkers not blinders. The English do not take cream in their tea. Quite how you can spur on a carriage horse; one would need long legs.

The unlikely and unladylike but clever diaglogue, the unlikely mixing of the social classes ensures this is amusing if not irreverent and lampoons the genre. Sadly the story comes unstuck with the syllabub at 6hr 34 mins. No way would syllabub be served with "duck and beans" (?). No way would the lady of the house play billiards with "staff"; the children might. Houses of the upper class have servants not staff; the Americanisms just got too much and toppled the tale into irksomeness.

ENTERTAINING UNTIL IT WASN'T DNF RTND
