About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Property might be theft. But the housing market is murder.
My name is Al. I live in wealthy people's second homes while their real owners are away.
I don’t rob them, I don’t damage anything… I’m more an unofficial house-sitter than an actual criminal.
Life is good.
Or it was - until last night, when my friends and I broke into the wrong place, on the wrong day, and someone wound up dead.
And now … now we’re in a great deal of trouble.
Featuring crooked houses, dodgy coppers and a lot of lockpicking, A Beginner's Guide to Breaking and Entering is a gripping thriller about what it's like to be young, skilled, unemployed - and on the run.

An enjoyable book with an entertaining narrator
At first I was disappointed to realise Andy wasn’t narrating, but having finished I can confirm Phil Dunster was the perfect choice. He made this very fun to listen to.
As for the book itself, it’s a quirky, funny story with more than a little political commentary thrown in, making it a compelling summation of the current state of British politics and housing. The main four characters are a touch derivative, but in my opinion this adds to the charm, and they’re all quite likeable. The plot is clever and winding, and has you pointing the finger at every character before humbling you at the end with twists you don’t see coming.
This was very enjoyable, and I hope to read a sequel in the future.

An enjoyable fast paced story
The title intrigued me and sounds a bit different, and I am glad I listened to this past-paced and light-hearted whodunnit. The narrator, Al, is very likeable and I enjoyed all the twists and turns. Being set in London with trips to the Caribbean and the Cotswolds and tge coast was a good back drop and the narration was very good.

Excellent storytelling!
I loved the way it was written, with the witty asides and the way the story played out was extremely satisfying and interesting! I have long been a fan of the author through No Such Thing As A Fish, and also have been a big fan of Phil who read it, so all in all a total joy! Would happily recommend to anyone, it fits in to many categories to suit many readers/listeners!

Absolutely wonderful
This is easily one of the more fun and enjoyable thrillers/murder mystery novels I've come across in a good while. I'd only ever really experienced the author via the comedy podcast 'No Such Thing As A Fish', but this has certainly piqued my curiosity about his other works. His dry sense of humour shines through into this perfectly.
Al, despite being somewhat of a naughty boy, is an easily likeable character (for the most part). He has a lot of depth. Plenty of good points and equally, plenty of those real, nitty gritty, grey areas that could make a person thoroughly unlikeable. It all serves to make him feel like a genuine narrator telling his life's tale from behind bars.
After bumping from posh house to posh house, living rent-free and un-noticed when the real owners are away on business/holiday, Al makes the mistake of a lifetime by winding up sharing a location with other, like-minded folks on the eve of a murder. What ensues is a funny, emotional, well-thought out tale of adventure. An adventure in which our protagonists aren't only trying to clear their names, but to figure out just who it was that committed the crime in the first place.
I enjoyed each and every character in their own way. Andrew Hunter Murray has done an excellent job of making the whole cast, and world at large, feel very real and something we can all relate to at some point or another.
I practically inhaled this audio book in a couple of days and can well imagine that, if the rest of his works are anywhere near as enjoyable, he'll probably find himself on my 'instant purchase' list going forward.
The narrator did an absolutely fantastic job with the entire range of voices. He really brought the cast to life and sounded like the perfect voice for the novel as a whole, but for Al specifically

A Somewhat Accurate Depiction of British Undercurrents
I quite honestly forgot who the author was. I of course mean that with no offence but it was absolutely sidewinding to consider this from Andrew Hunter Murray. A thrilling, dedicated telling of a small fish perspective with plenty of little pessimistic scoffs at the larger pond. Believable characters, descriptive scenery and a fitting pacing. I will be reccomending this to friends and family.

Entertaining.
I got this as a Daily Deal the first Andrew Hunter Murray book I've listened to and I'd certainly read more. Well written with quirky characters. Al is writing his story in prison and recounting the circumstances that got him there. Very funny with some laugh out loud moments. Phil Dunsters narration was excellent.
