About this listen

Having experienced his first survival type Trial, Trent Embra is eager to explore what else the world has to offer.

There is only one problem. Not everyone comes away from a month of constant fighting untouched. Trent's friend Tersa is unhinged by her time in the Land of the Undying Lord, and Sergeant Cullen means to see her fixed. Enlisted to help, Trent is dragged toward another Trial, mostly willingly. Only time will tell if Tersa still has a place in the Guard and what the Infinite World has in store for Trent.

Good, but slightly annoying at times

As with other listeners, the whole event after the cloak was quite annoying when in regards to Trent. I think there could've been better ways to handle the situation or at least make the period shorter. Maybe then it wouldn't be so bad. Trent doesn't even come to the realisation himself and it just makes him seem so stupid, when he's normally quite collected.
While yes, I understand the bond comes into play and how events transpired at the time, that didn't make it any less of a pain to listen to.

Regardless, I still made it through and enjoyed the majority without complaint.

Looking forward to the next book.

Should be book 1.5

I love the story and hope the series has at least 8 more books, but this was pretty lackluster, I'm left wanting so much more but without that satisfaction I got from the first book.

Awesome story. - 1 star for Tersa.

I love all the characters and the story is still amazingly good but Tersa is such an annoying story element. It makes no sense. No 12 year old should be allowed to be this dumb and silly. The joke, if it is a joke, is way too played out. I hope she forgets about Trent and never return to the story. She is delusional for no reason and the actual well written characters just accept the literally worst travel companion and likes even tho she continues to stab them in the face.

Addictive and fun

I really enjoyed this book, the performance is excellent with a wide variety of voices and tones that make you smile at the right parts in the story.

the story feels like it's only just beginning and I cant wait to listen to the next.

A bond broken

Too much time spent with a selfish unlikable character Tursa, Trent ends up becoming a background character in his own series. The whole debacle with the cloak lasted way too long and should have been resolved in a chapter. Will listen to the rest of the series on the strength of the first book and and subsequent world building

Book 1.5

Mirroring what other reviewers have said this really is a book 1.5.

The book is enjoyable; thus, the score of overall: 4, I would recommend waiting for the third book to be released on audible before purchasing. Most of the developments started in this entry are setting up events and introducing characters that will be important and interesting in future books. Not what you're listening to at the moment.

Please be warned Tersa is a bigger presence in this book. Personally, I think she's a pretty realistic depiction of a teenage girl. She, in fact, reminds me of someone I used to know, which means if you found her annoying in the first book. Be prepared for more of the same.

Lastly, Trent's, an idiot. Something **spoiler** will happen to him. You, the reader, will work out what to look at immediately, cough.... cough... Skill... abilities. Trent not so much...

A certain kind of tragic

I'm not going to lie, while this is a great book and series which I'll likely continue I got sad enough that I stopped listening for several months before finishing it, look forward to the next but God damn.
