Summary

'It turns out there are plenty of us: the unlucky ones. The women whose journey into motherhood, or whose yearning for more children, has yet to be fulfilled by the universe. I am certain that in so many parts of my story I really am not the only one to have gone through it, so it makes sense to write it all down. For all of us - and for any parents who might go through some of what we did in the future, too. So here it is, our journey to a rainbow. A story of fertility, trying again and, above all, hope.'

After the death of her three-day-old son, Teddy, in 2016, Elle Wright never expected what came next - that the path to bringing home a living child could be so winding. Elle's loss was followed by three and a half years of endless waiting.

She and her husband waited for test results, hospital appointments and so many new procedures to help with their experience of secondary infertility. This wait included friends announcing their happy news whilst Elle was experiencing three rounds of IVF and the loss of three more babies.

Months and years slipped by, of immense physical and emotional toll, and still those two lines were just out of reach. Faced with constant questions, drugs, negative tests, tears, loss, frustration and so many more tears, throughout it all Elle managed to still believe that one day it would happen for her, somehow....

A Bump in the Road reflects the reality of becoming a parent for thousands of people like Elle who have difficulty conceiving in the UK today. It captures Elle's journey to a rainbow, comforting through her beautifully written words with a story of fertility that might just reflect yours, too.

Beautiful happy ending

I read Elle’s first book and loved it despite the awful sad loss of her beautiful boy. I’ve never cried at a strangers baby announcement before but I did when she announced her little girl was due. To then hear the story in full of all the struggles her and her husband went through to get their beautiful rainbow baby was just incredible - so much heartache but I am sure this will help so many people

💗

Thank you for sharing Elle. I’ve cried the whole way through, sad and happy tears.
I also hope I’ve learnt, to be a better friend, sister, cousin or even complete stranger to those going through their own fertility journey.

Beautiful

A beautifully heart breaking glimpse into Elle’s fertility journey. A must read/listen for all, with or without personal experience, as it provides a little education into the unenviable circumstances. It had me in tears in parts, laughing in others and willing there to be a rainbow at the end. A stark reminder to us all to be kind and think before you speak.

Our stories are different from the reasons our children died to the problems and challenges of getting pregnant again but your words makes me feel so many times that I am not alone and that my feeling were and are still valid. Love to you and your gorgeous children x

Heartfelt.

Elle reads her book so beautifully.
It touched my heart throughout, so much resonated with me. Elle’s words explain the path of infertility more than I could ever explain and I urge anyone who has a friend or relative experiencing infertility to listen or read.
She made me feel not alone in the same thoughts and feelings all those years ago.
Thank you Elle

Heartbreaking and hopeful in equal measures

What an incredible book. I cried the whole way through. What Elle and her husband went through is unimaginable. The heartache and pain that just kept on coming... I thought it was wonderfully written, so open and honest. I found this book so helpful personally, even though they had been through so much they kept going and kept hope and got their rainbow in the end. I would recommend this book to anyone going through infertility or loss, or those trying support them. Thank you Elle for writing such an important book.

Raw, honest and comforting

I couldn’t stop listening to this. Elle is an inspiration. I feel privileged to have been able to listen to her journey so openly and honestly told. It made me feel like I had a friend talking to me. Listening made me feel less alone, and hopeful for the future. Thank you Elle.
