About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of A Mother's Choice by Val Wood, read by Anne Dover.

For 10 years Delia has had to fend for herself and her son, Jack, and as a young unmarried mother, life has never been easy. Every new coat and pair of shoes was bought with what little money she could scrape together as a singer on the stage.

But when the theatre work dries up, Delia faces a dilemma: continue the search for employment with no knowing whether she'll find the stability and security her son needs or return to the place that should be home...where only spite and hatred await them.

Desperate now, a chance encounter suddenly presents a lifeline. But Delia is faced with an impossible, heart-wrenching choice. Can she bear to leave Jack behind, hoping another family will care for him? Will they ever be reunited?

What else can a mother do to give her son the life he deserves?

Val Wood's wonderful historical sagas are perfect for listeners of Dilly Court, Maggie Hope and Rosie Goodwin.

What a marvellous story read so well by Anne Dover. I found it very sad at the beginning. what an awful childhood Dorothy had but luckily everything turned out well and the ending was lovely..Thank you Val Wood for writing such interesting stories. Please write a sequel - it would be great to hear how all the characters lives turned out !

I really enjoyed this book but the ending was far to abrupt which spoilt it for me. But I couldn’t give any less than full marks as enjoyed it to much.

What a lovely story with characters that come to life and a story with so many little extras. However, the sudden abrupt ending almost mid sentence just doesn't stack up. I'm in agreement with many, the story is totally ruined as if no more time, effort, or energy could be put into the book. Why? Is there a sequel?
I had to give three stars for overall due to this ending.

The abrupt ending is a disaster
