Summary

In this gritty and breathtaking conclusion to the Sorcery Ascendant Sequence, the award-winning fantasy series, a young sorcerer must learn to wield his extraordinary powers to defeat two warring empires.

In a battle of armies and sorcerers, empires will fall.

After young Caldan's parents were slain, a group of monks raised the boy and initiated him into the arcane mysteries of sorcery. But when the Mahruse Empire was attacked and the lives of his friends hung in the balance, he was forced to make a dangerous choice.

Now, as two mighty empires face off in a deadly game of supremacy, potent sorcery and creatures from legend have been unleashed. To turn the tide of war and prevent annihilation, Caldan must learn to harness his fearsome and forbidden magic. But as he grows into his powers, the young sorcerer realizes that not all the monsters are on the other side.

And though traps and pitfalls lie ahead, and countless lives are at stake, one thing is certain: To save his life, his friends, and his world, Caldan must risk all to defeat a sorcerer of immense power.

Failure will doom the world.

Success will doom Caldan.

A Shattering...

A fantastic book with lots of twists and turns. I have loved all the books in this series and this one did not disappoint. A great ending to a great series. Loved the characters who were all well developed and kept my interest throughout, their internal turmoil's only adding to a great story! Well worth ready and well narrated. Big thumbs up from me!

Fitting Finale

If you enjoyed the other 2 it's a satisfying conclusion with some genuinely exciting moments. Throughout the book the various characters have their motives explored and not everything is black and white .

overall an enjoyable experience.

absolutely brilliant story

I got the first book because it was in sale and it had good reviews. I dived straight into the second and third as soon as I was finished. This was an amazing story of an underdog who found friendship, strength and love. all the characters are well developed and interesting even though most of them are selfish and self serving. The main character is an innocent young person who was brought up by monks on an island, when he finds himself cast out into the world everything he thinks he knows of magic is turned on it head.

I Love a Good Ending

This is a book of pain, suffering, sorrow and, ultimately, choosing right over injustice. Caldan starts to really come into his powers, but this is not welcomed by anyone. The Emperor is after Caldan's touched blood; the Protectors and Warlocks all want to use him; Amerdan wants to consume him; Gazija and his men also want Caldan for their own plans. But Caldan? all he wants is to be normal and to go far away with Miranda. However, the Gods have other plans.

Whether everything makes complete sense is another matter - Caldan's powers, which seem to be increasing quickly, but how is a little foggy. There is little explanation about Gazija and Quiss's people and what will become of them after the final showdown? We only, briefly, get an insight into Caldan's family history, which I would have liked to hear more about. But, this is fantasy.

The battles come fast and furiously, but the showdown at the end ties up most of the loose ends. Would I recommend this? yes, I would as it is thoroughly engrossing and enjoyable.

Great story to end the trilogy

A great end to the trilogy, couldn't put it down, lots of the storyline threads brought to a conclusion, though would love to find out what happened to Calden & Miranda's life afterwards. I really enjoyed the story & the different worlds created by the author. The narrator was excellent bringing the story to life with the different characters though still no keen on the American accent when most of the other characters are different English ones. Will look out for more from the author and narrator.
