About this listen
A Year of Marvellous Ways is the much anticipated and utterly beguiling new novel from Sarah Winman, author of the international best seller When God Was a Rabbit.
Cornwall, 1947. Marvellous Ways is a 90-year-old woman who's lived alone on a remote creek for nearly all her life. Recently she's taken to spending her days sitting on a mooring stone by the river with a telescope. She's waiting for something - she's not sure what, but she'll know it when she sees it.
Drake is a young soldier left reeling by the war. He's agreed to fulfil a dying man's last wish and hand deliver a letter to the man's father in Cornwall. But Drake's journey doesn't go to plan and sees him literally wash up in Marvellous' creek, broken in body and spirit.
When Marvellous comes to his aid, an unlikely friendship grows between the two. Can Drake give Marvellous what she needs to say good-bye to the world, and can she give him what he needs to go on?

Fabulous book.
When I first read this book I adored it. Having loved 'Still Life" and Sarah's reading of it I thought I'd purchase Marvellous Ways. I loved it just as much, if not more than reading myself. Thank You Sarah Winman, I hope you will keep writing and sharing what's inside you beautiful brain.

This story was so beautifully written and even more beautifully read. It bought tears to my eyes and the gentle sweet humour made me smile. This book is among my most treasured ones.

Beautiful
This book sparkled with colours, sounds and smells. Even the narration was perfect. I found myself rationing it so that I wouldn't finish it too soon but now that I have I think I'll listen to it again!

Marvellous Marvellous
The beauty of the story., the beauty of Sarah’s narration. I didn’t want it to end.
Not sure of her Cornish connection, but she clearly knows Cornwall well.
Throughout the book I could see Marvellous as a play performed at the Minnack, the backdrop of the sea would be a magical setting for this magical book.

Loved this book , it made me laugh and cry , made me feel grateful for all that I have. The narrator was wonderful and really added to the unwinding story.

words fail me!
Up until now,my all time favourite book has been Frenchman's Creek by Daphne Du Maurier - well, this book has just joined it in top position! Mesmerising, haunting and unforgettable! The pictures are so strongly imprinted in my mind that I am going to do a piece of artwork to echo it. Beautiful narration and all the richer for being read by the author. Thank you Sarah Winman

Absolutely beautiful
I adore this book and the author reads as beautifully as she writes. It is a tale of love, life, death and everything in between and is just stunning.
