Summary

Annie conquered one world, but is a stranger in another. A stranger besieged by creatures who plan to wield her like a weapon.

Good has triumphed over evil, and the land of Aerisia is finally at rest. Until ancient beings, long imprisoned, begin to stir...

Entertainment superstar Annie Richards is enjoying an unparalleled musical career that has lately become endangered by haunting visions that threaten her sanity. A journey home to convalesce is disrupted when creatures straight from her nightmares bring down her plane. Annie awakens in a mysterious, parallel world.

Aerisia.

Here in Aerisia, Annie discovers her musical gifts translate into magical powers, but power comes at a price. Her magic is the legacy of the banished race that invaded her dreams, brought her to a new world, and seeks to wield her as their weapon. Mistrusted by Aerisian rulers because of her heritage, Annie will either defy both her ancestors and the Aerisian leadership to seize control of her destiny, or risk becoming the reason Aerisia itself is torn apart.

The first book of a companion series to the Sunset Lands Beyond series, Aerisian Refrain can be listened to in conjunction with the other Aerisia novels or as a stand-alone.

Aerisian Refrain

Annie is one of the most famous singers in the world, but she is plagued by constant nightmares. Therapy didn't help so she heads home to where her life began, where she lived with her parents before she became famous. But as she settles down on the plane on the way home, something goes wrong and she wakes up in foreign lands wondering what happened. As Annie tries to navigate this new land known as Aerisia, she quickly learns she has magical powers which starts her on a journey to discovering her true legacy.

This is a very long book and for the most part it doesn't feel that way until it starts to lag about halfway through where the storyline goes back and forth quite a bit, but then significantly picks up again. Overall it's an ok book which mixes modern day influences with a kind of medieval mystical world. I loved Hannah and her sistership with Annie which flowed easily throughout the book. There is a very slow romance which doesn't really read as them having a strong connection, but it certainly develops in an interesting way.

The narrator was good but did have trouble with some of the male voices.

I was given this book for free of my own choosing and I voluntarily left this review.
