About this listen
Treason waits at the furthest reaches of Empire...When the deputy commander of Rome's Imperial Security Service is assassinated on the island of Rhodes, Cassius Corbulo swiftly finds himself embroiled in the investigation. Assisted once more by ex-gladiator bodyguard Indavara and servant Simo, his search for the truth is complicated by the involvement of the dead man's headstrong daughter, Annia.
Braving hostile seas, Cassius and his allies follow the assassin's trail south aboard a ship captained by a roguish Carthaginian smuggler and manned by his disparate, dangerous crew. Their journey leads them to the farthest reaches of the empire; to a ruined city where the rules of Roman civilization have long been abandoned, and a deadly battle of wits with a brutal, relentless foe.
©2013 Nick Brown (P)2013 Hodder & StoughtonThe story got a little bit 'long winded' towards the end but i can forgive this. Excellent read.
Pleasantly surprised.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a very thrilling book moving from one exciting set piece to another, murders and chases and disasters and an evil villain to fight against. What other book might you compare Agent of Rome: The Far Shore to, and why?
The Previous agent of Rome books (obviously) and Richard Harris's PompeiiWhat does Nigel Peever bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Nigel Peever bring the characters to life far more than many other talking book readers do. he uses a wealth of different character voices making this a very interesting, enjoyable and dramatic experience. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I don't think I could listen to any 16 hour book in one sitting but it just kept me hooked as it moved from one exciting event to another.Any additional comments?
I often find audiobooks a struggle as a voice tends to fall into a pattern or tone Mr Peever's telling was highly animated and varied and I would happily listen to another Agent of Rome book when it becomes available.Dramatic and exciting reading

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Better narrationWhat was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
satisfyingHow could the performance have been better?
Narrator was far too pompous and clipped - he is almost patronising when story-telling. However, he is obviously a wonderful actor, his character voices are excellent. If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Agent of Rome: The Far Shore?
NoneAny additional comments?
Great pity that the previous books in the series are unavailable on Audible.Disappointed in the narrator
