About this listen
He was trained by Aristotle in every branch of human learning, conquered much of Asia, and was one of the greatest leaders in the history of the world. He greatly influenced the spread of Hellenism and is responsible for profound changes in the course of world development. "To be mystical and intensely practical, to dream greatly and to do greatly, is not given to many men," says Agnes Savill; "it is this combination which gives Alexander his place apart in history. Aristotle had taught him that man's highest good lay in right activity of mind and body both. [Alexander] gives a strangely vivid impression of one whose body was his servant."

I can't finish it
I've given three stars because I think the fault is probably with me.
I really do not like the Narrator. She has a kind voice and she reads nicely but she irritates me. Like a grandma reading to her unruly, bored grandchildren.
As for the story, well, it just bores me. I've tried about four times and I get as far as Chapter 3-4 only to realise that I have no idea what poor Alexander has been up to. Yet the kind grandma is still patiently reading.
It's probably the narration rather than the story. I'm not sure.

Like being in class
Honestly the speaker feels like being in class being taught by a polite, upper class lady who would disparage the youth of today. It takes some getting used to.
Overall though hearing of the battles, life and tribulations of Alexander was fascinating.

Spoilt by recording error
This should be a great listen, it has all the ingredients. Nadia May is a competent reader but the quality of the recording is spoilt by the existence of two clearly different standards of recording. My guess at what has happened here is that an original recording was made and then segments were done again, possibly because of issues, but the audio levels and sound quality are markedly different. The consequence is that you have a story told in a very clear delivery which then suddenly drops to a less clear, less loud and more muffled sound. This continues for a segment and then pops back up to the good quality again. This dropping in and out is right across the book and it just ruins the listening enjoyment. Shame that a technical issue has spoilt an otherwise good project. I gave up listening despite sticking in there for nearly three hours' worth. I am not sure others will possess my tenacity or hope that the fault is not ongoing!
