Summary

The Covenant mission is the most ambitious endeavor in the history of Weyland-Yutani. A ship bound for Origae-6, carrying 2,000 colonists beyond the limits of known space, this is a make-or-break investment for the corporation - and for the future of all mankind.

Yet there are those who would die to stop the mission. As the colony ship hovers in Earth orbit, several violent events reveal a deadly conspiracy to sabotage the launch. While Captain Jacob Branson and his wife, Daniels, complete their preparations, security chief Daniel Lope recruits the final key member of his team. Together they seek to stop the perpetrators before the ship and its passengers can be destroyed.

An original novel by the acclaimed Alan Dean Foster, author of the groundbreaking Alien novelization Alien: Covenant Origins, is the official chronicle of the events that led up to Alien: Covenant. It also reveals the world the colonists left behind.

Not much happening...

Not much Alien is actually happening.
I must admit i did not get where the main antagonist gets his "inspiration" from.
Maybe i missed something in the movies but overall i cannot say it added much to expand Alien universe.

Story was ok, doesn't belong in the Alien series

I found this story a bit slow to get going, then before you know it, it's being wrapped up and nothing really happened. it was a bit underwhelming, to be honest. I found myself listening just to reach the end and move on to another book.

it deffo doesn't belong in the Alien series. I feel like it was piggybacking on the franchise just as a selling point. I think it would have been more enjoyable having nothing to do with Alien, as it would have been less of a let down.

Can speak cockney, can't pronounce names of places

I listened the whole lot in one go. So it's a pretty good story, good storytelling except (and that was really annoying) badly pronounced names of places in London.
Still, a pretty good audio book.

Great introduction to the Alien Saga

This is an Alien prequel without any contact with the Alien creatures themselves. It is set in last days for the departure of the colony ship Covenant on a mission to colonise a far off world Origae-6. A series of a events ranging from sabotage to kidnap all seem directed a preventing the Covenant from leaving on its' mission. Security from Weyland-Yutani who own the Covenant are hell bent on tracking down those who are responsible. Are they a rival corporation who want Weyland-Yutani to fail so they can pick up the pieces? Are they fanatics who have reasons of their own for wanting the mission scrubbed.
This is an interesting novel which is as much thriller /detective story as it is SciFi /Alien story, but it moves along as at a good pace, with good action scenes and good characterisations.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Tom Taylorson is a good narrator and helps draw the reader into the story.

Um….

I was skeptical to listen but it was entertaining enough.
To those hoping to hear about Aliens this is not it. This is before any spaceship takes off to the universe.

Interesting world building

This as a start is interesting setup book and in my opinion but not of much interest to those outside of in depth and interested fans. This book does well to world build and setup events whilst still containing it's on story within however I feel it only exists for setup. I enjoyed this book and reading about characters previously only mentioned is interesting and that's all I feel this addition to the alien series is. As you can tell from my choice of words, this book is interesting and could probably be skipped in the series as a whole.

Distinctly meh 😕

I’ve always been a huge fan of the Alien franchise, I’ve always appreciated the ever expanding lore, whether it be through film, comic or novel. Whenever I hear of a new Alien project I waste no time in adding to my list of must see/read/hear content.
All that said, Alien: Covenant Origins feels like a thin cash grab. While listening, I hadn’t kept track of the run time, when the narrator began reading the closing blurb at the end of the book I thought something had gone wrong and I had accidentally skipped forward. It ends very abruptly and was fairly unsatisfying. The story is ok, but given the backdrop of the Alien universe, you’d think they could have come up with something a bit more substantive.
I will say the narration saved this book, as the narrator was wonderful at seamlessly transitioning between characters with very unique and convincing delivery.
It’s not terrible and does give a little extra context, which if nothing else may enhance the viewing of the movie slightly, as you’re given a little more reason to care if certain characters die, that said, this argument only applies to one or two characters.
In summary - Dissatisfying & bland with fantastic narration.
