Summary

The Earth lies in ruins in the aftermath of an extraterrestrial invasion, the land devastated by a desperate war with no winners between mankind and a race of vicious, intelligent creatures. The seas are drying up while the atmosphere corrodes and slowly cooks any life remaining on the now desolate rock. Food is scarce, trust even more so, and the only people left alive all have done horrific things to stay that way.

Among the few survivors is Lucas, an ordinary man hardened by the last few years after the world's end. He's fought off bandits, murderers, and stranded creatures on his long trek across the country in search of his family, the one thing that drives him to outlive his dying planet. What he finds instead is hope, something thought to be lost in the world. There's a ship buried in a crater wall. One of theirs. One that works. To fly it, Lucas must join forces with a traitorous alien scientist and a captured, merciless raider named Asha. But unless they find common ground, all will die, stranded on a ruined Earth.

Combining gritty post-apocalyptic survival and epic space opera, The Last Exodus is the beginning of a new action-packed science fiction adventure where the future of the human race depends on its survivors leaving the past behind.

I couldn't stop listening to this

I love Sci-fi and having listened to and read all Iain M Banks books, I have been searching for an author that writes incredible sprawling space operas. In my search I came across this book. While it is no space opera, it is one of the best books I've listened to in a long time. The author has a wonderful way with words and creates scenes that you can picture in your head while they are narrated perfectly by Victor Bavine. The characters are interesting and complex and you really begin to care for them. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had it on every opportunity I could. I am going straight to the next instalment. It is a real gem and it's free with an audible subscription.

Great characterisation and plot

The strength of the characters is consistent throughout the trilogy - meaning you care what happensti them. The plot(s) are complex but really hang together. I'll be tempted to re-listen sometime soon

A surprisingly good and enjoyable listen

I have to admit to starting out with small hopes with this one. Having never heard of the series of books or the author. But the description got me interested enough to give it a try.
Like most audiobooks i listen while im driving as it takes the stress out of the trip for me. This also helps me get through what can be a bit of a tough fleshing out process for the characters.
Once you get past the initial process the story builds and branches out in a direction i didn't really expect.
Its easy going made enjoyable with the narrator making effort with the story when needed.

Certainly worthy of a listen and ive just added the other two books to my library to listen to, hopefully i enjoy them as much as this one.

Good Space Adventure

Great story. It starts as a slow post Apocalypse novel then shifts gear into an enjoyable steady paced sci-fi. Lots of good alien tech and action.

Highly entertaining post apocalyptic story

I’ve now completed the trilogy and really enjoyed it. This epic covers many many themes that have been touched on and explored in the realm of a post apocalyptic scenario and then expands into a far far bigger story. Nothing too complicated but fun and a few nice twists too. Great narration as well.
