Summary

The door to the massive New York Times best-selling House of Night series has closed. Now Kristin Cast kicks down a new door to welcome her millions of fans to her latest sizzling series.

There is a world that runs parallel to our own, a world in which the souls of the damned are caged, where they are looked over by the furies, and where they spend eternity in torment, mirroring the devastation and mayhem they created when alive.

Someone has opened the cage.

The worst of terrors have crossed the barrier that separates our world from theirs, and the furies send a great, albeit untested, warrior - their only son, Alek - to bring those souls back. He is young and handsome, headstrong and impulsive, and he won't be able to do it alone.

Eva has grown up beautiful and beloved but surrounded by secrets. First she will be hunted in an ancient feud that will threaten her life. Then she will become the hunter.

With the police closing in and two worlds on the verge of crumbling around them, Alek and Eva must find each other, discover the limits of their powers, and work together to save everything they hold dear, including one another. Blending elements of mythology with the dazzling storytelling that her fans have devoured in the House of Night series, Kristin Cast weaves a spellbinding and passionate tale that starts a thrilling new series with an explosive charge.

Great lore, unique characters & story, recommend!

I really liked this book, interesting characters that are well written and unique. You often see character stereotypes or tropes in this kind of fiction but the characters are inventive and new.
I don't think I'd have the patience to be best friends with the main characters best friend as she's the kind of person I'd have a hard time not rolling my eyes at. But I appreciate that about it, the characters are more life like, flawed, falable and things do not always go as they would like.
Similarly with the story, it's like a snapshot of time instead of the boring pattern some books fall into. So if your looking for perfect main characters and a predictable storyline nicely finished with a bow, this isn't for you and I recommend something a little more modern fairytale. However if you like interesting lore, variety and to be kept a little more on edge this is right up your ally.

Right, I'm off to go get the next book and see what else this writer has written 😁

It kept reaching to a place it never got too

It just went on an on but no real update in story. it wasn't all bad but the book needed to be half the size for a decent story. oh well big cliff hanger so hopefully book to gets into what the story is really about.

Great Book....But Read Below Before Buying!

This is a really good book and I have also read the second in the series. If you like PC Cast her daughter Kristen has a very similar writing style and the same flare for magic and deities! There is one big problem however, this is a three book series and the final book is no longer in print and has not been for years. It was never made into an audio either. Book 2 ends on a cliff hanger and there is no way to find out the ending. I have searched the second hand market and cannot get a copy anywhere. I am sad to say unless you can get a physical copy of book three first and if you would be unhappy to start a series you cannot finish maybe give it a miss. I am so disappointed as I simply would not have read them if I knew this up front.

It was a fantastic read and I think it's 1 of those books that is best listened to. The narrator was fabulous for this book.

Narration wasn’t good at all

Story could have been better. Narration was awful, robotic. Wasn’t a good listen I’m afraid
