Summary

When foster carer, Cathy Glass, is asked to foster Darcy-May, a two-day old baby, she is very concerned.

The baby is coming to her straight from hospital and will have no contact with her teenage mother, Haylea. Even more worrying, she will be brought to Cathy with a police escort as it’s vital her extended family don’t know where she is.

Abandoned at birth, Cathy and her family quickly bond with little Darcy-May although they have to accept she will eventually leave them to be adopted. But fostering is rarely straight forward, and when Haylea asks to see her baby a different story begins to emerge. It’s so alarming that even Cathy, a highly experienced foster carer, struggles.

Heart Warming

Loved the ending of this book. So glad Hayley and Darcey-May got the ending they deserved. I did feel at there was quite a lot of unnecessary padding like a play by play of every day tasks from start to finish such as making a cup of tea and repeatedly including the fact it was "usual practice" to be ask certain questions during reviews which I personally, I think was common sense and could have been left out unless it was clear that the reader might question why certain things were asked.

I love that the same narrator is used in a lot of her audio books, I am however seriously triggered when the narrator says "ett" instead of "ate" in all the books she narrates. It kind of dumbs down the book a bit for me, when Cathy is evidently a smart, professional woman. Thankfully this didn't ruin to book too much for me but it is rather annoying and a bit distracting.

Another good one from Cathy

I won’t give too much away but I really enjoyed this memoir. It was centred more around Darcy-Mays young mother which was interesting. The reason behind a childs entry into foster care is never pleasant to hear but I love to read how they are bought through to better times and the challenges Cathy helps them overcome.
