About this listen
Can I Let You Go? is the true story of Faye, a wonderful young woman who may never be able to parent her unborn child.
Faye is 24, pregnant, and has learning difficulties as a result of her mother’s alcoholism. Faye is gentle, childlike and vulnerable, and normally lives with her grandparents, both of whom have mobility problems. Cathy and her children welcome Faye into their home and hearts. The care plan is for Faye to stay with Cathy until after the birth when she will return home and the baby will go for adoption. Given that Faye never goes out alone it is something of a mystery how she ever became pregnant and Faye says it’s a secret.
To begin with Faye won’t acknowledge she is pregnant or talk about the changes in her body as she worries it will upset her grandparents, but after her social worker assures her she can talk to Cathy she opens up. However, this leads to Faye realizing just how much she will lose and she changes her mind and says she wants to keep her baby.
Is it possible Faye could learn enough to parent her child? Cathy believes it is, and Faye’s social worker is obliged to give Faye the chance.

Truly Memorable
Faye is 24 years old, has an intellectual disability and lives with her grandparents who have mobility problems. She stays with Cathy and her family during her pregnancy, at the end of which the plan is that her baby will be given up for adoption. Initially, everyone believes she will be incapable of raising a baby because of her disabilities, which were caused by foetal alchol syndrome as her mother was heavily alcoholic whilst pregnant with her. Will she prove them wrong? She has a change of heart and Cathy, as well as her grandparents, are a great support to her throughout the story.
I love all of Cathy's books, but this in particular had me rooting for Faye, and feeling teary in parts. By the end of the book, I was left feeling maternal myself. As a person with physical disabilities, I have had my own ability to parent up for debate, but this story is a story of courage and hope. Will Faye get to be a mother? No other words can sum up this story other than truly memorable. I have the feeling this will stay with me for a long time.

Wonderful story....again!
Would you listen to Can I Let You Go? again? Why?
Maybe in a few years I would listen to it again, but now I am looking forward to Cathy's next book!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Cathy....a star.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I as crying from the first, because of the death of Cathy's father who had been such a wonderful person. Then again later on, but won't give away the story.
Any additional comments?
I couldn't stop listening to this book and am very sorry I have come to the end of it.

Can I let you go
Another of Cathy's wonderful accounts of her life as a foster carer, this young woman was so selfless is finally relizing that she won't be able to cope. One truely heart wrenching story certainly another must to listen too.

Touching, Moving and Heart Wrenching
As I have said before, I have been listening to this series of books for a while now, but this one got me right in the feels.
I am a Mental Health/Learning Disabilities nurse and this book absolutely captured my heart.
The wording used, the descriptions of teaching and the communication difficulties highlighted were SPOT ON.
This is one that I will 100% be listening to again and again. My favourite so far!

Something real
I really enjoyed the true life telling of this story. It's like reading a diary. Very good voice artist with a lot of truth to the complicated characters. It's interesting but might not be to everyone's taste. The story unfolds like real life - slower. It might not be a suitable for a fast paced reader who expects action or unexpected turns.
