About this listen
When the ladies of the ton of Regency London need discreet assistance, they turn to Rosalind Thorne - in these mysteries inspired by the novels of Jane Austen...
Trust is a delicate thing, and no one knows that better than Rosalind Thorne. Lady Melbourne has entrusted her with recovering a packet of highly sensitive private letters stolen from her desk. The contents of these letters hold great interest for the famous poet Lord Byron, who had carried on a notorious public affair with Lady Melbourne's daughter-in-law, the inconveniently unstable Lady Caroline Lamb. Rosalind is to take up residence in Melbourne House, posing as Lady Melbourne's confidential secretary. There, she must discover the thief and regain possession of the letters before any further scandal erupts.
However, Lady Melbourne omits a crucial detail. Rosalind learns from the Bow Street runner, Adam Harkness, that an unidentified woman was found dead in the courtyard of Melbourne House. The coroner has determined she was poisoned. Adam urges Rosalind to use her new position in the household to help solve the murder. As she begins to untangle a web of secrets and blackmail, Rosalind finds she must risk her own life to bring the desperate business to an end....

Just the one thing...
I really enjoyed the story and it was narrated well ,however as this was set in England, may I point out that we do not say ‘gotten’ or ‘dove’. Someone should have picked this up at the proof reading stage.

Missing something
Great book but I felt that something was missing or like I was missing something. Maybe because it is book 3 and I had not listened to the ones before. Also for someone who is said to be discreet I feel like she can't wait to share what she is doing with everyone. But I did enjoy the book and would recommend.

Brilliant!!
This was my first Rosalind Thorn mystery and it was fabulous! Thoroughly enjoyed it... the setting is quite refined, mostly centred in upper class society, without the shocking, gritty & gruesome moments often featured in historical murder mysteries. The characters are well presented & our heroine is astute and gutsy. Combined with a solid plot and good pace, what’s not to like? Well narrated too. Highly recommend... hope more are coming to audible soon!

Excellent
The best yet. I liked the inclusion of “real” people and how accurately and sympathetically the author wrote about them. The plot was really good too. The quality of the writing, and narration too, meant the Americanisms - stoop, for one - could be overlooked. I just wish all the Miss Thorne books had been recorded for Audible in the order in which they were written.

Enjoyable & intriguing
Though I found the love interest side of the story rather silly the actual premise of the novel was excellent. It was fascinating to learn more about the 18th century & Byron.

entertaining story, sloppy research
So many Americanisms: stoop, in back, gotten, snuck, to name a few. Narrator was average, not as good as the narrator in later stories.
