About this listen

A Warhammer 40,000 Novel

Angron is roused to war once again, unleashed upon a weakened and vulnerable galaxy. Can it withstand his boundless rage?

Listen to it because:

David Guymer brings Angron back into the 41st Millennium with a furious roar, as he calls his scattered Legion back to his side and embarks on an epic conquest.

The story:

In the darkness of Imperium Nihilus, across half a million worlds cut off from the dim light of Holy Terra, a beacon is lit. The Red Angel returns to an unsteady galaxy and his scattered sons heed the call to slaughter. Aboard the World Eaters’ flagship, Kossolax the Foresworn, self-appointed lord regent of the XII, fights to keep the old dreams of the Legion alive, but finds the return of his hated father both an opportunity and a threat to the warriors’ fragile unity.

Marooned on a worthless moon with a rag-tag band of traitors as despicable as himself, Ortan Leidis of the Angels of the Grail dares to dream of something greater.

Half a galaxy away, Graucis Telomane of the Grey Knights has been readying himself for this day, and plans six centuries in the making are finally set in motion – plans that will see the eradication of the Emperor’s greatest mistake once and for all...

This book has annoyed me it’s story is dull the characters poorly written no pacing

Otherwise I would have returned this book, 2 of my favourite books are Betrayer and Emperors Gifts and this book sadly is a mockery of both, even with the inclusion of the conqueror and the mistress this book was hugely disappointing

Saved only by the narration

Last act not as interesting as start and middle but excellent voice acting, really captures the grim tone of the narrative as well as reminding me of the voice over in the animated transformers the movie for nostalgia bonus.

excellent narration

Huge World Eater fan, but this book was a chore to finish. No memorable moments, uninteresting characters and it felt quite low scale in the grand setting of 40k, especially with Angron involved. Such a shame!

Tragically forgettable and difficult to enjoy.

Fantastic narration throughout and it was nice to hear special effects, such as vox interference, throughout.

However for a book about Angron, it’s no exaggeration to say he is hardly in this book.

Instead it’s a mediocre story about world eaters and grey knights. Grey knights being the more interesting of the two.

It’s a shame that there is ZERO explanation as to why Angron has returned and where he is going in the story.

4/10 for me

Where is Angron?

I'm about half way through, the beginning 10 mins is just repetitive, of the narrator say "No, not this place".. But it does have a purpose for setting the scene, even if it goes on too long.

The rest of the story, especially about the Mistress of the ship, was a nice surprise.. I'll say no more.

I was hoping we'd get Toby for this book, but the narrator a veteran of the Black library and does a good job, he's not my favourite, I find he often talks to slow, so I speed it up... Then parts that he rushes through suddenly go unheard... I can't win.

Is it worth a credit? Yes...

A good story

The first hint of Angron actually appearing is around the 2hrs 45min mark, then next one is him actually doing something for about 5 minutes around the 6th hour, than he actually speaks and is fully active in the book around the 9th hour. This is more of a Grey Knight or World Eater book, it’s not an Angron book. So if you’re reading it for more Angron action/lore, best give it a miss. If you just want to read about Grey Knights doing space wizard stuff, this might be for you.

No Angron in an Angron book.

Angron feels less like a character than a thing people talk about, I was constant excited to see Angron, for Angron to do anything but the whole story was just avoiding the titular character and stopping anyone doing anything. I think if you are fully invested in World Eater lore it is great but for me the story was just very boring.

The most exciting parts were when I realised who the Mistress was and what ship they were on but that was because I was excited for Angron to turn up and start beating ass like an abusive father who just ran out of JD and the Jim Bean just aint slapping. Great start but meandered through a very boring middle to an action packed and okay conclusion.

Read Kharn Eater of Worlds, it's better. And if you have read Eater of Worlds just re read it, this doesn't compare even though it feels like it should.

Even great voice acting can't save a boring book

This is saved by the voice acting and the references to Heresy era character and where they are now.

A strange description of World Eater's characters and their personalities with no back story for supposedly Legion leading characters.

Distinctly Average

When will you rage - probably after 10h 58m wondering why you listened to it ramble along between grunting noises - it isn’t terrible but as the book I last did was The End and the Death this probably had little chance to engage by comparison, If GWs physical products had this level of variation in quality we probably would not but them - at least it wasn’t Descent of Angels.
