About this listen
What happens when your tormentor becomes your protector?
Oakley Farrow is your typical high school senior. He stays up late, cramming for finals. He has impossible deadlines to meet. He worries about his future as graduation lurks just around the corner.
He has to defend himself from his abusive uncle. He has to keep his sister safe. He has to survive the constant torture from his bully, Asher Brooks—the seemingly arrogant and cruel star quarterback.
Okay… so maybe not your typical high school senior.
When things start to change—when Asher notices the bruises marring Oakley's skin, the ones he didn't put there, and that evil gleam in his eye morphs into one of concern—one thing is for certain: his life just got a whole lot more complicated.
Anyone But Me is an MM bully romance with content for mature listeners.

Angst but Beautiful MM romance.
A new to me author (I believe this is a debut novel) I bought based solely on repeat positive posts on social media reading groups I am in.
This starts off as a typical "Bully Romance" but it quickly becomes evident that both MMCs have a lot going on beneath the surface... Oakley is enduring a horrific home life after the loss of his parents and trying to hold everything together for the sake of his sister. He is also being tormented at school by Asher whom I initially hated. Asher's story takes longer to uncover and his redemption arc was well done.
The two MMCs clearly have an unresolved tension which is sparked when Asher realises someone else is hurting Oakley and his sneering turns to concern which is initially met by disbelief from Oakley.
This is also an "against all odds" story... both MMCs really go through it but their HEA is well earned and beautiful.
The story is told in two parts. part one is Oakleys POV and Part 2 is Ashers. Personally I'd have enjoyed a mixture of both POVs through the story but it still worked really well.
I'll definitely read/listen to more work by the author.

Rushed and Unrealistic
This story started off quite well and I enjoyed the first narrator but as the story went on everything just became rushed. Poor character development, unrealistic conversations and situations, especially in the 2nd half of the book. Asher's Dad having a complete personality transplant towards the end just totally took me out of it. The whole bully aspect was portrayed quite poorly, Oakley forgetting everything Asher did to him just to get his end away was totally unrealistic. The epilogue was awful. It's a shame as it had a lot of potential,
