Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
'The coaching room can sometimes become its own theatre. A marriage unravels right in front of you. A shaming confession is made. A secret hugged for many years is disclosed. Tears of wrenching anger and despair can take up the whole session. These are times where you and the client hold your breath because nothing is ever going to be the same again.'
It is very rare as an adult to find a place where you are not judged, where you can be open, honest and vulnerable: that is exactly what coaching provides. This book brings together 20 different stories that represent the very human dilemmas a coach can encounter. Coaching is not therapy, but it is closely related, and while many people seek (or are assigned) executive coaching for work problems, just like therapy, each person brings their whole self to the conversation. Exploring Jenny's beautifully written and moving stories will offer the listener a chance for deep reflection on the meaning of modern relationships.

Coaching book meets memoir - you don’t have to be a coach to love this book
I started reading and listening this book as I do all Jenny Rogers work, as part of my professional development as a coach. And then, like the best read you take on holiday, I was gripped and I couldn’t put it down. Its a wonderful book for coaches but I found myself recommending it much more widely than that and have enthusiastically recommended it to friends and clients with references to the chapters that I know will resonate with them. A must read/listen on the art of being a human and a professional.

Brilliant and insightful
This book provides excellent insights into a range of coaching experiences from a top class coach. It is so well written. Absolutely wonderful! Highly recommended as a walking companion - although bursting into laughter whilst walking alone may occasionally have left passers by wondering 😎

Beautifully written and narrated
The stories are so real and relatable, they paint the big picture of what humans go through as we struggle with ego, and seek love, acceptance, inner peace and happiness, not just from other people but more especially from ourselves. Jenny’s vulnerability and humility to share her own struggles and lessons are touching and impactful especially to me as a coach-in-training. Such a significant, rich life. Her story-telling skill is amazing. Great narration, never a dull moment. Well done, both of you.

This is real coaching
This is a beautiful account of a number of coaching encounters. They demonstrate the incredible reach of coaching. It shows skills to which I can only distantly aspire as a trainee coach, but it is very clear that coaching is not just about using skilful tools. It is how we listen and engage with those we are coaching.
Each chapter is a story in itself - the coaching journey of individuals with Jenny Rogers. I found them deeply touching and thought-provoking. As Jenny says in the book, there are moments in coaching which evoke emotions about things in our own lives. I believe this book would touch anybody’s heart – whether they are coach or not - and help them to reflect on their lives.. It is a book to which I will return – both as an audio and written resource.
It is read by Antonia Beamish who brings each person to life and it is easy to know when it is Jenny or someone else talking. It makes the book a wonderful listen.I set out to maybe hear a chapter, and have just spent the whole day doing my chores and listening to this book.
I was a bit hesitant about the cost initially but I would definitely recommend this audio book. Not just two coaches but to anybody who is interested in the wonderful courage and resilience of the human heart.

Human stories beautifully told
This is far more than a must read/listen for any coach or person undergoing or considering coaching. These are engaging and authentic stories of human experience told with wise insight. The author's vast experience, professionalism, empathy and humour shine through. The inclusion of elements of memoir, in which the author so frankly shares aspects of her life, emotions and occasional professional missteps, elevates the work to something way beyond a "book about coaching". It is well narrated and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Humanity and humility
An outstanding account of human complexity and simplicity. Jenny captures the breadth and depth of what can be revealed in the coaching room, whilst sharing her own learning, self awareness and vulnerability. I found this a deeply moving and humbling account of the power and privilege of coaching. Will be listening again and taking notes🤗.

Wonderful book for coaches and anyone interested in coaching and psychology
I really enjoyed this book. As a newly certified coach it was informative and reassuring listening to Jenny’s book. Jenny has three decades of experience as a coach so I personally found what she had shared invaluable, knowledgable and also entertaining at the same time. Would definitely recommend it.
