About this listen

When historian Jaya Jones receives a mysterious package containing a jewel-encrusted artifact, she discovers the secrets of a lost Indian treasure may be hidden in a Scottish legend. But she's not the only one on the trail.

From San Francisco to the Highlands of Scotland, Jaya must evade a shadowy stalker, as she follows hints from the hastily scrawled note to a remote archaeological dig. Helping her decipher the cryptic clues are her magician best friend, a devastatingly handsome art historian with something to hide, and a charming archaeologist running for his life. When a member of the dig's crew is murdered, Jaya must figure out which of the scholars vying for her affections might be the love of her life - and which one is a killer.

This is the first book I’ve read by Gigi but not the last. The twist and turns thought the book kept me glued to the story. I will definitely continue this series.

Mystery

The story was very engaging - plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing. But as most other reviewers have said, the Scottish and English accents were truly dire. Think Groundskeeper Willie from the Simpsons - but not that good. I kept going and just cringed inwardly as I enjoyed the plot.

Fast paced whodunnit let down by narrator

The story was good. Unfortunately, being British, the attempt at the accents of the Scottish and English characters was hilariously bad.

Good book, but

I have fallen in love with the novels by Gigi Pandian. The books are very well written, with believable characters. I can't wait to continue this series. Brilliantly narrated.

Another new favourite author

This is a great story but performance was full of terrible attempts at British accents with mispronunciations. You have to ignore them to enjoy the actual story.

Good read

Feels like a holiday book that can listen to without much investment. Had adventure, murder, etc. Not sure I bought into the main character - can’t say why maybe constant ref to height was irksome.

Easy listening

I am enjoying the story, but unfortunately the English/Scottish accents are really badly done... it’s pretty distracting!

Terrible accents!

Another enjoyable Pandian adventure. Gentle excitement & a bit of love. But found it hard to concentrate on the actual story because of the quite awful accents attempted by the narrator. The Scottish accent was extremely cringey.

Good yarn (but iffy accent work)

Hard to listen to though story ok. Accents were truly bad, especially for anyone British.

Really awful accents

I don’t like to give negative reviews if I can help it but I really struggled to finish this audiobook. The attempts at accents were really grinding and took me out of the story every time. I don’t know any English people with accents even close to those used and I’m English myself. As for the Scottish accents, well they travelled the world a few times before settling somewhere in Ireland. I’m unlikely to continue this series as audiobooks as I just can’t put myself through them again. That aside, the story was ok. Not fantastic but not terrible either. I think if I’d read it rather than listened I’d probably be going straight into book 2. A decent holiday read, just don’t buy as an audiobook if you’ve ever heard anyone from the UK speak before.

A largely decent story not well told.
