About this listen
Sometimes, life’s greatest lessons are found in failure…
With the circumvention of Aurora’s grim fate—and a heavy heart at what’d been required to avoid it—Rowan and his budding Party take their first steps toward realizing their goals; Aurora, a brilliant young woman, is determined to uncover the truths behind her father’s disappearance. Nathaniel, the stalwart companion, is shackled by his name and longs to be free. Rowan, a wily old geezer, is compelled by his circumstances to turn their unlikely coalition into a force that can survive the fated calamity.
Rowan once more dons the mantle of mentor as his growing Party looks to him for guidance. Lessons learned through tribulation are everlasting. Within the shadow of danger lurks opportunity. And oftentimes, the biggest threat is the one you don’t see coming...
Don't miss Book 2 in the A SUMMONER AWAKENS Series, a Deck Building LitRPG utilizing a Card-based Magic System with loads of customization and steady power progression. Perfect for fans of All the Skills and Towers of Heaven, as well as games such as Slay the Spire, Hearthstone, and Gwent.

Too short
Excellent continuation from Book 1. The story and performance deserve a 5 star. However, it really is too short....

decent story
I felt auroras journal part should not have been mid way through as all it was is stats which would have been better at the end and stated what it was

A good story and excellent series
A most enjoyable listen with a nice mix of exploration, battle, intrigue and the use of cards is well done. This book was a good follow from the previous book. I look forward to the next book I hope its a bit longer.
The narration was very well done especially the work of Jeff Hays. The pace of the audiobook was perfect and the music subtle but adds to the listening experience.
I also agree Auroras journal should have been at the end as it stopped the flow of the story.

overall good but the ending confused me
most of the story is filler, there is not internal story and the book is pretty much just a bridge between the first book and a potential third book, there is no reason it should exist and overall feels a bit pointless which is a shame cause i kind of enjoyed it, the characters are fun and interesting, the battles are a bit meh cause there doesn't feel like there are any stakes and well i've already mentioned the plot or lack thereof, combine this with the ending which is just baffling, in that i don't know WTF happens cause it just jumps from one scene with another with no connection or anything, and i'm left with the feeling i will probably buy the next one but if it is as poorly thought out as this one is i will not continue after that.
as for the performance full stars, just brilliant, voice actors (i think there are 2 of them) are phenomenal and portray the characters excellently, each felt distinct and unique.

Quite good
Some of the information dumps weren't as well organised, occasionally the way the skipped scenes were narrated was disorienting, and the different voice recordings weren't mixed very well.
But it is the same story you listened to in the previous book. Far less of it than you might think, but it did deliver surprisingly much in ~7 hours.
I skipped the two hours of info dumps in the middle because 1. it said they were skippable and 2. there was no way I was going to listen to the slow stats of a hundred different cards for an entire evening. Author, please don't make listening to those stats relevant in the future because I'll be quite upset.
Worth getting? Yeah. Does it end in a cliffhanger? Kinda, but it's not the worst and 10% of it is already resolved. I don't feel cheated.
Does the party progress a lot? No. It's a 7-ish-hour audiobook. Does it reveal a lot of unknowns and introduce new dimensions to the story? Yes it does. Does it continue every thread mentioned in the previous book? Yes, at least it does every thread that I can remember.
Will I get the next one when it becomes available? Yep. Definitely. Even if we only get 4 hours next time.
It loses points because the narration wasn't produced quite as well as I would have wanted, and because the information management was a bit sub-par.

Another Fantastic inclusion by a Fantastic author!
The book is as always well written, with interesting characters and a well balanced MC who's neither overpowered noir too weak to fit his role. Many who have tried similar feats just make it into a self insert powerfantasy, however Rowan is powerful, but far from unbeatable. He's has been defeated by miscalculating a jump a couple of times and always prepares before facing his opponents. He knows he'll lose if he takes them head on, so he sets up a scenario where he has the advantage before engaging the enemy. Quite rare in LitRPGs.
All in All a book I would highly recommended 👌

A filler
I enjoyed book 1 but this was a bit of a letdown. I really hope it's building to an epic reveal in book 3 otherwise book 2 is a skip The story seemed to drag and got hung up on stats, here's hoping for better to come.
