Summary

Banking on Death: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

This is the first of 37 Emma Lathen best sellers. The Sloan receives a request for an advance against a trust that does not permit it. John Putnam Thatcher gets involved by one heir, Arthur Schneider, President of Schneider Manufacturing, and grandson of the founder who left a trust for his grandchildren upon the death of all of their parents. The last parent is about to die from natural causes. One heir is missing and Thatcher, Trinkam, and Nicholls, all Emma Lathen regulars, work to find the missing heir. Soon they learn a murder is involved and it takes Thatcher to unravel the Gordian knot. This is Emma Lathen at her best.

Booktrack is an immersive listening experience that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music and sound effects. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Please note: The audio for this title has noise issues at the beginning and end of each file/chapter.

Great story but terrible performance

I have loved tge Emma Lathan stories and was thrilled to find them on Audible. This performance is horrible. The narrator has no rhythmn and will suddenly stop mid sentence. For some unknown reason there is background music and sound effects. They are so loud they can sometimes drown out the narration.
To quote Jane Austen "Badly done Emma, badly done!"

Unbearable

The story itself may well be good but at chapter 4 I am stopping and returning it. There is irritating piano music playing in the background, which distracts from the narrative. Either the narrator has no idea of when to pause in a sentence or the editor is totally incompetent. The narrator pauses in the oddest places almost as if he has no idea what is coming next and resumes 2 or 3 seconds later. I simply can’t bear it anymore. It is so disjointed it seems like something that has been copied from a cassette and the resultant gaps between tapes ignored. It cannot be that, I am sure, but it reminds me of that. I thought I would try to persevere but the narrator is so bad I can’t do it. I usually like to finish a book once I have started but this simply isn’t worth a credit.
