Summary
Maureen Doherty and her golden retriever, Finn, have taken possession of a charming old inn - only to discover that it's already possessed by tenants whose lease on life already ran out....
Maureen's career as a sportswear buyer hits a snag just before Halloween, when the department store declares bankruptcy. Meanwhile, Finn's lost his way as a guide dog after flunking his test for being too friendly and easily distracted. Sadly, only one of them can earn unemployment, so Maureen's facing a winter of discontent in Boston - when she realizes she can't afford her apartment.
Salvation comes when she receives a mysterious inheritance: an inn in Haven, Florida, a quaint, scenic town on the Gulf of Mexico hidden away from the theme parks. Maureen believes it's a good place to make a fresh start with a new business venture. But she gets more than she bargained for when she finds a dead body on her property - and meets some of the inn's everlasting tenants in the form of ghosts who offer their otherworldly talents in order to help her solve the mystery....

Not for me
This was just wasn't for me. There was nothing wrong with the story and I can't really say why, I think it just seemed slow and I struggled to get through it, which is unusual. The characters were like able enough and the ghosts were a fun addition, although I did think they would have got involved in the investigation but they were more interested in fashion. The animals of course stole the show. I did think for such a slow start to the story the end was rushed. The mystery was taken over with the running of the inn and the problems with it. which did make the mystery feel like it was on the back burner. There were a few questions I would have liked to have answered, like why she was left the hotel in the first place but at least the killer is caught. I will probably join Maureen again but I am not in any hurry to do so.
Maureen loses her job after the department store closed and with no way to pay the rent, she jumps at the chance when she learns she has inherited a inn. The inn is the only thing she inherits, she also gets the big running costs of the out dated inn and it's residents ghosts and ghost hunters. When one of the ghost hunters is killed after claiming to have caught one of the ghost on film, Maureen also becomes the prime suspect. Along with her bar tender. To keep the inn running and clear there names the pair will have to work together to find out who really spiked his drink with poison.
The narrator does a good job, to bring life into the characters.
