About this listen

A Warhammer 40,000 Audio Anthology

The Imperium's initial attempts to attack the orks and kill their leader have ended in failure and tragedy, but there can be no surrender – the fate of humanity hangs in the balance.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Black Library's epic The Beast Arises saga reaches its conclusion. Discover what happens when the Space Marines head to the orks' home world one final time. There can be no retreat – they must succeed in their mission… or die in the attempt.

THE STORIES

The Last Son of Dorn

As the ork menace ravages the galaxy, the Imperium faces its darkest hour. Its fleets are in ruins, its armies devastated – amongst them the noble Imperial Fists – and even a primarch of myth has fallen against the Beast. As brute force fails, Koorland resorts to increasingly desperate tactics against the orks. A final hope lies in deploying the controversial Deathwatch and the Sisters of Silence in a deft strike at the heart of the ork empire. As the situation grows more dire, Koorland must live up to the symbol he has become as the last son of Dorn, or all of humanity will be doomed.

Written by David Guymer. Narrated by Gareth Armstrong.

Running time 6 hours and 2 minutes approx.

Shadow of Ullanor

The Imperium’s attempts to defeat the ork menace seem doomed to failure; it is only a matter of time before the orks triumph, and humanity is wiped from the face of the galaxy. Yet there is some cause for hope – the psychic weakness of the orks has been discovered, and a few Sisters of Silence still survive. Supported by the full military might and technology of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Space Marines head to the orks’ home world one last time.

Written by Rob Sanders. Narrated by Gareth Armstrong.

Running time 5 hours and 21 minutes approx.

The Beheading

Across the length and breadth of the galaxy, humankind celebrates its salvation, and relishes the prospect of a return to peace. But the war against the orks has riven the political bedrock of the Imperium, exposing its rotten core. One powerful man decides he has the solution, and launches a campaign of destruction so terrible that thousands of years later his actions will still be viewed with horror.

Written by Guy Haley. Narrated by Gareth Armstrong.

Running time 5 hours and 21 minutes approx.

Total Collection Runtime: 17 hours 59 minutes approx.

I’ve listened the HH series, Siege of Terra and all Eisenhorn and Ravenor books. This series is up there in terms of quality. The Emperor protects!

Great book

I still can't wait for a potential version from the Greenskin's perspective. On the other hand, the Beheading is a really cool way to end the story on some good ol' fashioned civil war in the Imperium, one between the Assassionrum and everyone else, and one between the Imperial Fists.

Good Ending

I made it through to the end of the war of the beast

enjoyed most of it, it got a bit mired in politics sometimes but overall a good winding tale

I made it through woooo

An incredible ending to a very interesting saga. Great delivery and a very interesting plot twist.

Masterpiece

This volume of The Beast Arises was just as good as all previous volumes until the last book The Beheading. This last book just let the rest down and in my opinion wasn't up to the same standard as the rest.

Good until the end.
