About this listen

A Siege of Terra Anthology

Horus is dead. His Heresy is over. The scars of mankind’s great schism will never fully heal. For those left behind, a new Era of Ruin is dawning, promising both new beginnings and fresh peril for an Imperium riven by trauma and war.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

This is the final instalment of the Horus Heresy – but that was just the beginning of a much darker tale which will be 10,000 years in the telling. These short stories show us glimpses of the stories that spun out of the Siege of Terra as the fledgling Imperium put together the pieces after the galaxy-shattering destruction, and those who fought on both sides, as they try to move on from the unthinkable events of the bloody conflict.

THE STORY

In Chris Wraight’s Homebound, Ilya Ravallion must choose between the decimated White Scars and living out what remains of her life in peace. An embattled Ahzek Ahriman must race against time to learn what he can of the warp before its gates close to him forever in Ex Libris by John French.

Featuring tales from Dan Abnett, Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Guy Haley and many more, this anthology follows mighty Custodians, scheming sorcerers, and the lowly footsoldiers of the Imperial Army as all negotiate the devastating aftermath of Humanity's greatest reckoning.

Culmination of beloved characters of the siege and heresy series as a whole. 5/5 great way to end a great series

Bittersweet

Not quite what I was expecting from Era of Ruin. I found some of the short stories enjoyable, some a little more tedious. I was hoping for it to pick up as Robute Guilleman arrives on terra and meets up with the other primarchs to dicuss / sort out the post heresy imperium. (breaking down the legions into chapters, plans for what they do next etc) I was hoping for more Primarch involvement, or perhaps a short story based around more of them and how they are coping after the heresy. If you enjoy the horus heresy books its definitely worth a listen, might not be what you are expecting though, (or not enough). I just want more from Games workshop as a huge fan.

Post Heresy - OK

A lot of characters are brought to a fairly satisfying conclusion. However not really what I hoped for in the final Heresy story. Would have been nice to get some more definitive lore from the arrival of Guilliman and the Emperor’s internment. How about the traitors retreat from Terra?

performances were good.
a normal quality black library production
if you like 40k it's worth a listen, especially to finish the Horus Heresy series.
nothing outstanding but a good listen.

as expected

I had waited so long for this final book. How disappointing! There was so many issues that needed a conclusion from the previous book. It would’ve been nice to have a true finale to the stories that’s so many people have invested in for so long. I would compare this to the abysmal last season of Game of Thrones. So what was wrong with it, you ask ? On the whole a collection of short stories with characters we have not met before or have not invested in over the many years Was a mistake. Now the true Achilles Hill of this book was the narration I’m particularly talking about the narration of Sojo . He would’ve been wonderful in a Shakespearean production, but not suited to sci-fi. I had to skip all his stories. And then found I was left with only three stories to listen to. Mercifully, I found the one and only Jonathan Keeble narrating the very last chapter. I’m returning this book. If I’m going to be honest, I haven’t finished it. What a very sad ending to what was a brilliant series.

Disappointed!

And by that I mean started with Horus Rising and finally the heresy/seige tale is told, this book should have been one that all readers could have achieved closure, instead it’s a mismatched anthology, Chris Wraight,ADB and Dan gave some succour but the rest was poor, also the narrators were badly matched to the tales they told, I really enjoy Colleen with her Minka Lensk stories but not a silent sister or white scars, Shogo was superb with the Carchardon but didn’t enliven the stories here, Mr Keeble is as always superlative and the carrion king story is by far my favourite

Started with a bang ended with a whimper

I usually don't write reviews, but after reading some of the reviews for this anthology novel, I felt compelled to share my thoughts. It seems many people rate the novel poorly simply because their characters didn’t get the endings they personally wanted, rather than judging the material and substance of the stories themselves.

I’ve also seen a lot of complaints about the narrators, but I personally disagree with those as well. Shogo and Colleen are veterans in many beloved and popular Warhammer series. For example, Shogo voiced the critically acclaimed charcharodon novels. In my opinion, the anthology did a great job within the Horus Heresy / Siege of Terra series. Each story was dedicated to closing out a character’s arc, and it all concluded with a strong, solid performance by Keeble.

It’s already been noted that there will be more stories after the Siege of Terra, so we’ll still get to see how Abaddon left Terra, how Guilliman manages the Codex, and much more. I think a lot of the negative reception comes from people’s high expectations rather than the actual quality of the work.

It’s a good listen, with satisfying conclusions for many beloved characters from the Siege of Terra.

Characters getting there conlusions.

Jonathan keeble should narrated the whole thing (except the sister of silence)
listened to the whole seige of terra with keeble doing the voices only to have their possibly final stories voiced by someone else was a let down.
expected so much from this and feel it didn't live up to any of the other books.

disappointed

I have listened to all the hours heresy era books and as this is the last, is very sadly disappointing, so much could have been done but sadly I personally felt the 4 shorts, were dull . no spoilers, takes place probably some a good time after the war, and is the cleaning up the mess. so much missing, what happened after XYZ etc

as the last book, sadly not good

I love the HH series and the SoT especially. This could have been a great opportunity to add some different perspectives or wrap up some plot lines. Instead its mostly boring stories, read in a dull manner. Multiple times I missed one story finishing and the next beginning. Smacks of a cash grab filled with stories authors had left over or were forced to write in a rush.

ADBs story about the Custodes and the one about the silent sisters were good and worth a listen. The only other 2 stories I remember, I do so because of how much I disliked them.

Bland stories, dull narration. Easily skipped.
