About this listen
Book one in the Bequin series.
Listen to it because:
It's an intriguing and evocative story that shows characters you know and love through new (yet strangely familiar) eyes, forging a stunning mystery that will leave you astonished.
The story:
In the city of Queen Mab, nothing is quite as it seems. Pariah, spy and Inquisitorial agent Alizebeth Bequin is all of these things and yet none of them. An enigma, even to herself, she is caught between Inquisitors Gregor Eisenhorn and Gideon Ravenor, former allies now enemies who are playing a shadow game against a mysterious and deadly foe. Coveted by the archenemy, pursued by the Inquisition, Bequin becomes embroiled in a dark plot of which she knows not her role or purpose. Helped by a disparate group of allies, she must unravel the secrets of her life and past if she is to survive a coming battle in which the line between friends and foes is fatally blurred.

superb!!!
fantastic return to the Eisenhorn & Ravenor series.
very different from the regular 40k fare but has oodles of (fully realised) characters, masses of details about the 'reality' of life in the imperium away from the battlefield.
Dan Abnett is a brilliant writer of sci-fi fiction and has a wonderful sandbox area of the universe to build and play in.

rattles along
knowing nothing of Warhammer, I enjoyed this slice of fantasy, well written and convincingly performed. shades of Abercrombie, minus the humour, in the gory bits, but it has left me keen to move on to the next episode. need to look up who is who though.

Wow, what a book!!
Dan Abnett is at his best in this book. The story just keeps picking up speed and depth as the story goes on. I love the little snippet that are dropped in. I can't wait to listen to next book.

Great story, lore heavy
It’s a great story and well read, props to the narrator. There are a lot of words and ideas that won’t make sense if you haven’t read or listened to any of the other books from the black library like myself but if you push on then by the end you will understand most of it and be ready for another book from the series

I'll listen to this book again!
Abnett is the best story writer in the 40k universe!
Great preformance too.
A great way to continue the story from the books about Eisenhorn and Ravenor.
Be ready for the second part, because it will leave you hungry for more!

Great story
Great story worthy of the Eisenhorn saga.
The narrator isent very good but that still dosent take too much away from it.

An excellent addition to the Inquisitor series
An excellent addition to the Inquisitor series. Abnett adds another player to the Eisenhorn tales and I have to say it's been highly enjoyable.
