Summary
They were reunited at his funeral, school friends with a shared past. A past that is anything but straightforward. A past that harbours secrets and untruths.
Karen has a seemingly perfect life. An adoring husband, two wonderful children and a beautiful home. She has all she has ever wanted, living the dream. She also has a secret.
Sandra's once perfect life is rapidly unravelling. The man who meant everything to her had a dark side, and her business is failing. To get her life back on track, she needs to reclaim what is rightfully hers. She knows the secret.
As the past meets the present, truths are revealed - and both women understand the true cost of betrayal.

All in all a great read/listen
I read this book initially as my mum’s name is also Julie Newman, however I immediately saw past that to the great book that it is. Not shying away from difficult subjects, some of it can be a tough- albeit necessary- read. I really enjoyed the interplay between different characters, weaving through the story like a leitmotif from beginning to end. Engaging and absorbing, it kept me hooked from start to finish. And the narration is just perfect. All in all a great read/listen.

Can't rate this book highly enough
The narrator made it real, but the Twitter kept me enthralled. Brilliant story, great ending. Loved it.

Really great listen!
Loved it, right to the end.
Can’t recommend this book enough.
Some reviews ask why the connection with South Africa. Listen to the story correctly and it does make perfect sense.
I don’t want to give anything away, but although shocking in places, really good!
Karma’s a wonderful thing!

Stunningly Addictive!
From the first word to the last this book had me gripped! Sometimes uncomfortable listening but superbly narrated!!
The range of voices the narrator had were so believable... it's really hard to do a South African accent but she mailed it! Believable characters and a GREAT story. REALLY well done.

a good listen
the book has a story that could most definitely have happened to a young girl , but the book didn't deal very much about the terrible consequences that comes from abuse and the ending certainly wouldn't be something that happens as the abuser is admitting his guilt after his death . Leaving all his money to the girl he abused instead of his daughter is only fueling the fire , what the main character did is appalling and you can't mend abuse with money .The narrator was very good ,some off the book was very difficult to listen too.

The story line is disturbing but handled really well . The part where the girls are at school brings back memories of long ago..
