Summary

Estranged from his family for most of his adult life, Chris Napier is persuaded to return home for his niece's wedding. At the reception, he is shocked to recognise a dishevelled intruder as his childhood friend Nicky Lanyon, whose presence is a chilling reminder of a murder and subsequent trial that Chris has tried hard to forget.

When Nicky hangs himself, Chris is compelled to revisit the tragic events of 34 years ago and the apparent justice that was served. But as present-day mysteries begin to shadow his footsteps into the past, his search for the truth soon becomes a desperate struggle for his own survival.

So many twists

Another great page turner, full of many twists. You work out who the villains are only to be wrong. Just when you think all is well another avenue opens up. Excellent story.

Great Story telling

Have only recently discovered Robert Goddard and have stormed through this book and Painting in Darkness. I found they both start quite slowly but once into the story I become absorbed with the tale itself and all the twists and turns. Beyond Recall had me gripped from start to finish and the narration is wonderful John Telfer has a glorious voice. Already downloading Hand in Glove!

Robert Goddard never fails.

Love his writing and love John Telfer's narration. The detail, the twists in the development of the story, the final resolution, always make Robert Goddard 's books some of the best.

Wonderful

Another great read with lots of twists. Suspense until the very last sentence, and then a surprise!

Gradual build up…

… and full of twists and turns. I had to turn the speed up a bit to get it going because the delivery, while good, was a bit ponderous, but I very much enjoyed it.

Long winded beginning

The first hour is overly descriptive and rather tedious, but it is worth sticking with it as after this it’s a good story.

Enthralling

What a remarkable story teller Robert Goddard is! Made even better by a brilliant narrator in John Telfer. I would definitely recommend the audiobook.

A twist of a tale

This is one of many of Mr Godard’s tales to which I have listened and although, as usual, it’s clever and gives suspense, there are themes emerging: the protagonist seems able to drop employed work in the blink of an eye and appears to suffer all that fate and misfortune can throw at him. Nevertheless a good mystery with the usual plot twists and surprises. Very well read.
