Summary
A neuroscientist’s groundbreaking, science-driven plan for revitalizing, nourishing and rejuvenating your most essential asset - your brain.
Your brain is the most essential organ in your body. The brain and spinal cord are intimately connected to every bodily system and organ, so when it is balanced everything in your body and mind will function more efficiently. It’s vitally important to take proactive steps now, or you risk losing everything, including your ability to think clearly, be creative, remember details, solve problems and retain your memory.
In Biohack Your Brain, leading neuroscientist Dr. Kristen Willeumier reveals how you can change your brain by making simple and easy modifications to your lifestyle. Combining clinical experience with revolutionary science, she details how biohacking your brain can boost your cognitive performance and so much more.
Dr. Willeumier’s essential guidebook shows you the most effective techniques to prevent memory loss and neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease - and even how to overcome negative thoughts and stress. Through research and case studies, you’ll learn how to upgrade your nutritional choices along with the effective use of supplements, brain games, and physical activity to overcome cognitive damage, whether it’s from previous injuries, such as a concussion or a bad fall or from the effects of living in modern day times.
Dr. Willeumier shares her own story alongside those from the NFL players and other clients she has worked with to help you leverage the latest research to find personal solutions. Biohack Your Brain teaches you how to take better care of your brain, and also how to release excess weight, enhance your memory, increase your energy and vitality in order to create the best health and life possible.

A lot of assumptions.
Too much reliance on personal opinion & outdated & biased research. Try’s to demonise meat based on research that is flawed.

Do your own research
Kristen seems to have a clear vision when writing this book. It is full of great advice which follows what I’ve read elsewhere. However, mixed in with that is some very…. Interesting advice too. One of the worst? Hearing that someone overcame cancer on positive thoughts alone. Yeah…..
It would have been nice to have heard more about the brain, how it’s wired, and how certain habits change and alter it. Instead, the science bit is over pretty quickly, then it feels like a lecture from an over confident friend who has just discovered a whole new bunch of ‘ultra healthy brain altering’ fads. I did not expect the sudden change to a dietary lesson. There are many contradictions throughout this book, such as eating fish being one of the best things brain health, followed by the ‘suggestion’ to take fish out of your diet, and plant based is best. Huh?!?
Also, Kristen appears to be pushing a ‘plant based’ diet in a few places in the book, but I can’t help but wonder why people like this use the word ‘plant based’ instead of vegan. It’s as if ‘vegan’ is now a dirty word. Meat is incredibly healthy, just avoid processed, and try to go for the best quality. Fish is also great!
The chapter on supplements may have some benefits. However, all of those Kristen mentions have ‘science backing’. Erm, they don’t. Science is incredibly negative about vitamins, except for vitamin D and fish oils, and perhaps a couple of others, but definitely NOT multi vits. Meat is full of B vitamins, especially B12.
Anyway, I feel like this is more of a self help book than science, and before taking any advice, please, do your own research. Read other books. DO NOT make this your only book about the brain. I also feel like most of the advice given here is for people who are slightly older, although it doesn’t specify.

Misleading Title - in one reader's opinion
So while biohacking might be a bit of a vague term, it likely doesn't bring to mind the type of advice you'll get from this book.
The author spends a bit of time establishing their credentials at the beginning then essentially just tells you to improve your brain by drinking water, getting enough sleep, eating green stuff, super positive.
Dr Willeumier may be a brilliant neuroscientist, but they certainly didn't need to be to write this pamphlet of basic health advice.
This book might be worth reading if you're looking for slightly more neurological context on why the basic health advice you'd get from any doctor is worth following.
