About this listen

An apple a day won’t keep this doctor away.

Linden Grove has always known that he’s not destined to be the next pack alpha. That position belonged to his brother Aspen - but then Aspen left the pack to join the military. When the unthinkable happens and the pack is left rudderless, someone has to step up and take care of it. Can a doctor go from “do no harm” to defending his own with his teeth and claws?

Colt Doherty is used to a certain kind of life. Glittering, picturesque, and...empty. As the youngest child of the country’s only werewolf senator, Colt has grown up in the spotlight, and he’s all too used to knot-headed alphas taking credit for the work of others, especially omegas like himself. When his editor sends him to write a story on the Grove pack, though, he finds something completely unexpected: Linden Grove in his unpolished perfection, as shiny and sweet as the apples his pack are known for.

A Grove pack omega has been kidnapped, and someone has to step up. The pack needs Linden to fill his father’s shoes, but no wolf can stand on his own. To save the day, sheltered Colt has to drop the politics and become the action hero he never thought an omega could be.

Black Moon is an 90k word standalone novel featuring one fiery journalist, one doctor with an obsession for hand knit sweaters, and the sweetest apple pies on the whole eastern seaboard, all bundled up in a non-mpreg A/B/O universe.

Shifters, Kidnapping and Love.

Linden Grove, second son to the Alpha of The Grove Pack, Linden studied and became a doctor, much to his father's disgust. Why would a shifter pack need a doctor? But, after one of the packs omegas was kidnapped, Linden finds that being a qualified doctor will not save his father.

Colt Docherty, son to the only Werewolf Senator and a reporter at the cities newspaper. Colt is used to the glitz and glamour of the city, plus being the son of a senator, he's used to the parties and spotlight.

When Colt finally gets a reply to his letter to meet the Alpha from Grove Pack, he heads there straight away. Only to find that his invite wasn't from the Alpha as he was killed days before, Colt arrives on the day of the funeral. How will Colt react to being in the middle of the country and not in a city?

This story has many twists and turns. The two main characters are pushed out of their comfort zones. But, they are real honest characters, ones that you can relate to and see in others.

Well written, and Michael Fell does a great job of narrating this book. I can't wait to read book 2, if there is one.

If you like shifter book A/B/O then I am sure you will like this.

So enjoyable

This one was so enjoyable and i loved that the author changed the normal Alpha/ Omega dynamic. Colt was so entertaining and also more strong willed then most. Of the Omegas that I have read. A fantastic listen in part due to the storyline which was definitely worth listening to and also due to the narration which was spot on.

Great start to a new series

Another cracking read from this writing pairing and enjoyable performed by the narrator. Still on the supernatural spectrum but this time it's wolf shifters. Omegas in peril, a kidnapping, a pack left leaderless. But more than that it's about finding home, the softest, sweetest alpha (with a core of steel when his own are threatened), sweater vests, and picking apples. Linden is a sweetheart and Colt is a fiesty omega.
What else do you need to know, here's a summary:
* supernatural
* shifters
* City boy in a small town
* finding home
* doctor
* journalist
* knotting
* NO MPREG
* alpha softie
* fiesty omega
* start of a series

Black Moon

This is my first listen/read of Burns/Fawkes, but it won't be my last. I really liked the story and the characters. Linden and Colt are so perfect for one another. I'm ready for more. I enjoyed Fell’s narration after I sped it to 1.3.

Enjoyable

I listened to another audio by this duo of authors and wasn’t overly impressed. I decided to try again and I’m so glad I did. This book was really good on a bunch of different levels.

First I’ll start with Michael Fell. I always enjoy his narration. There wasn’t as much differentiation between the two leads, but the story and chapter headings were clear enough that I was able to follow along. Michael also had some great female voices. I think he nailed this one.

The opening scene finds Linden, a doctor and alpha, trying to save his father. When he fails, a huge weight falls to him. A weight he’s not prepared for. He always believed his older brother would return when the time was right, and he’d assume the mantle of leadership. Well, you know what they say about assuming. Members of the Grove community turn to Linden. He’s been so busy treating a mysterious omega illness that he hasn’t worried about pack politics. That ignorance is about to bite him in the butt.

Colt is an easy-going guy. His father is a senator and so there’s been a spotlight on their family for his entire life. As an omega, he’s been able to skate by with a bit less attention. Instead he’s focused on his job as a journalist with the Washington Post. When he gets the scoop that there’s a pack in Virginia who are coping with the mysterious illness, he goes to investigate. He doesn’t foresee getting involved with the pack, a missing omega, and the alpha of the Grove.

This was an interesting book set in the alpha/beta/omega world of werewolf shifters but without the mpreg. Alphas still dominate and mark their mates, betas are still the helpers, and omegas are there to keep the alphas calm. An interesting dynamic.

Anyway, this book worked for me and I spotted where subsequent books will go and I can’t wait.

On A Quest For Knowledge.

MM Alpha/Omega Shifter Paranormal romance, Reporter Colt heads to Virginia to visit the Grove pack to look into why they have been so successful keeping their Omega's healthy and seem to be relatively unaffected by the disease that is affecting werewolf Omega's globally. He's arrived at a terrible time as the Grove pack are in Crisis at the time with pack Alpha's son Dr Linden Grove and the pack suffering tremendous loss. Fantastic story with action and drama throughout, steamy true mates NO Mpreg. Narrated brilliantly by Michael Fell.

Great Story & Narration🎧 A Fascinating PNR!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book I found the story to be original with interesting storylines that captivated my attention from start to end. It is my first book written by Sam Burns and W.M. Fawkes and it will not be my last. They are gifted authors with a wonderful writing style, I love the fascinating world they created with equally fascinating characters. The characters are easy to relate to and connect with, I adored both leads Linden Grove and Colt Doherty, both are shifters, Linden being an alpha while Colt is an omega. Linden is the pack’s doctor, his father is the pack alpha and his older brother, Aspen, is next in line to take over, but he has not been home or hear from in a while so when the alpha is killing trying to save a pack member it puts Linden in a tough place. He does not think he has it in him to be the pack alpha. Skip, another member of the pack, wants the job despite not being very well liked. While the pack is mourning the loss of their leader, he calls a journalist to come to town on the premise of checking out the pack in connection with a mysterious illness effecting wolf packs though had ulterior motives for bringing him in. Colt is that journalist and he is no dummy or pushover, he reads right through Skip. Colt and Linden wind up clicking, Colt needed an alpha to attend to his heat and he asked Linden. I thought these two were great together and for each other. Linden had some insecurities about becoming a leader but Colt knew he could do it he just needed the right people by his side. This is a fabulous paranormal shifter romance, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, a touch of angst, some mystery, twists and turns and a slow burn romance. I am looking forward to finding out more about the “Condition” plaguing the shifters and what the cause is. Sam Burns and W.M. Fawkes, thank you for greatly entertaining story filled with awesome characters.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Michael Fell is a talented narrator and voice artist. He brings these characters to life, humanizing them, giving each their own distinct voice. He does an outstanding job portraying the characters, grasping each persona, taking the role, making it his own, sounding believable and just as I picture them to sound. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the character’s emotions and projects them into his performance. Michael Fell is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen!

Enjoyable listen

I enjoyed listening to this book. I liked that the characters were more normal, rather than theatrically masculine like many other books in this genre - made a refreshing change.

Enjoyable story with intriguing mystery

Content warning for kidnapping, trauma, forced mating, and presumed sexual assault of a secondary character. This action occurs 'off-page', but the trauma and suffering have lasting effects on the victim and other characters. Usual shifter violence when two alphas fight to the death (brief, but semi-graphic).

I really enjoyed this audiobook and the slightly different take on the shifter world. It has a bit of a dystopian feel with 'the condition' taking out most of the omegas, and the alphas going aggressive and practically feral without them. There is some drama and trauma here (see my warnings). Although the actual crimes occur off-page, the aftereffects are very evident and tragic. There are a couple mysteries here. The big one is 'the condition', what causes it, and why some packs' omegas were decimated, while other packs suffered less. (Note: This mystery is touched on but not really advanced, so I presume it will be picked up in future books.) There is also a smaller mystery in the alpha who helped Brook. Not sure if his appearance was a one time thing or if he will play a larger role later on. I really loved Linden and Colt and the way they both grew and came to realize they were much more than what they originally thought. I'm looking forward to more from this world. I sure hope we get a book about Brook and his healing. He deserves a good alpha (not sure that would be Linden's brother, either!)

The narration was very good and really brought the characters to life. I loved the snarky attitude of Colt.

I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
