About this listen
Lindon has a year left.
When his time runs out, he’ll have to fight an opponent that no one believes he can beat. Unless he learns sacred arts the right way, from scratch, he won’t have a chance to win...and even then, the odds are against him.
In the course of their training, he and Yerin travel to the Blackflame Empire, where they fight to master an ancient power left behind by a fallen clan. This is Lindon’s chance to learn a true Path, but there are those who do not wish to see these lost techniques revived.
Success means a chance at life, but failure means death.
In the sacred arts, those who risk the most travel the farthest.

Better than the second book
I'm still not happy with how simplistic the world building and characterization of the main characters turned out, everybody talks about honor, but I haven't met a single person so far who had the slightest idea what it means in the classical sense... Nevertheless, I must say that Blackflame felt more mature than Soulsmith, and the author have improved on some aspects I've found lacking in the previous book (e.g. we got to dive deeper in certain characters background and we got to know a tiny bit more about Cradle and it's people) .
The pacing was good and the series retained it's addictive cuality due to the satisfying feeling of the protagonists' constant advancement - in battle prowess mostly -, as well as the brutal action sequences. Travis Baldree's outstanding performance also helped bring the action alive and shade the characters a bit further.
I can again recommend this book, I believe it will appeal mostly to those people who desire a light reading/listening experience spiced with a healthy dose of excitement over thorough world building and conflicted personalities with deep convictions.

Flaming Awesome.
Damn this series just gets better and better as the books continue, Holy moly the magical system is phenomenal. The Oriental setting is just amazing, so action packed and fast paced will have you so intrigued right from the start till the end. Lindon has a deadline. A year to advance enough to face and fight a gold cultivator Jai Long in single combat. His adoptive family Eithan, Orthos the giant turtle and Fisher Gesha has thrown him in the deep end and are pushing him to his limit. In this entry the story expands to the Blackfire empire which has many factions which are at one another's throats. Plenty of character development and growth as we watch Lindon and Yerin progress along the path of cultivation. Along the way it is revealed that Suriel has discovered the multiverse is under threat. Just what Lindon and his sword sister Yerin roles will be in this conflict is yet to be revealed. Absolutely fantastic, now for book four, Travis Baldree continues his awesome narration, I very highly recommend to all fantasy fans...😁💥🔥
