About this listen

In Washington Township, Michigan, on Valentine's Day, 2007, Stephen Grant filed a missing persons report on his beloved wife, Tara. The stay-at-home father of two was beside himself with despair. Why would Tara abandon him and their family? Was she involved with another man?

Stephen's frantic, emotional search for Tara made national headlines, and the case was featured on Dateline among other television shows and news outlets. But key elements in Stephen's story still weren't adding up: Why did he wait five days to go to police? What was the nature of his relationship with his children's beautiful, 19-year-old babysitter? Why did Stephen have cuts on his hands, and random bruises? Then, the police made a gruesome discovery.

Parts of Tara Grant's body started turning up around the woods near their home. The truth was finally coming to light...and, after a two-day manhunt, Stephen admitted to having killed Tara―first strangling her, then cutting her body into 14 pieces before burying them. This is the shocking true story about a bitter, cheating husband whose crimes were revealed by the Blood in the Snow.

When I chose this book, I assumed that I would get a standard, true crime story, but I was so wrong!! I was hooked from the very beginning. It has echoes of a really good John Grisham novel, with all the drama, twists and turns that you would expect from the great man….except this, is all true! To add to this, the narrator brings the whole story to life, with his telling of this sad tragic tale. A definite 5***** listen.

Clearly, some murderers are very clever, some are ultra cunning and others just plain stupid. This guy fits in the latter category, but his act still made a vicious impact on the lives of his victim's family (including his own kids). This chap is living proof that being an arrogant, psychopathic idiot can either get you the US President job, or a nice 'extended'vacation' at said President's pleasure. Interestingly, both outcomes offer official accommodation! In is case, however, the murderer's stay will last far longer than the previous incumbent of the White House managed to achieve. As such, and somewhat unusually in this utterly unjust world of ours, fair and proportionate justice has clearly been served - on both of the afore-mentioned empty vessels ...

Incredible act of remorseless murder, by an idiot!

And well read. I felt emotionally involved, close to tears at times. A heartbreaking story of the evil murder of a young mother demonstrates the importance of tackling domestic abuse issues.

Exceptionally well written

Had this been a fiction book I couldn’t have finished it. It would just be far too unbelievable, there definitely seems to be a playlist that murderers follow in an effort to show the superiority of their intelligence over absolutely everyone else! When they are actually just showing they are delusional and simply evil.

Unbelievable

Not the most amazing audiobook in the world. Gets repetitive in places. Worth buying in the sale rather than at full price.

OK

The story of this murder is interesting enough, while horrifying, but this book is badly written and not narrated particularly well, either. I was disgusted to hear some blatant misgendering from the author also, referring to a transgender woman as a ‘transsexual man’. Regardless of context, this is not okay. If you are interested in this crime I would recommend simply reading articles on the murder online rather than listening to this book.

Interesting story but bad execution.
