About this listen
Elaine is an orphan girl who has grown up in a world where magical ability brings power. Her limited talent was enough to ensure a magical training, but she's very inexperienced and was lucky to get a position working in the Great Library. Now, the Grand Sorcerer - the most powerful magician of them all - is dying, although initially that makes little difference to Elaine; she certainly doesn't have the power to compete for higher status in the Golden City. But all that changes when she triggers a magical trap and ends up with all the knowledge from the Great Library stuffed inside her head. The knowledge locked away in the Great Library was meant to remain permanently sealed and letting it out could mean a repeat of the catastrophic Necromantic Wars of 500 years earlier. Elaine is forced to struggle with the terrors and temptations represented by her newfound knowledge, all the while trying to stay out of sight of those she fears.
But a darkly powerful figure has been drawing up a plan to take the power of the Grand Sorcerer for himself; and Elaine, unknowingly, is vital to his scheme. Unless she can unlock the mysteries behind her new knowledge, there is no hope for those she loves, the Golden City, or her entire world.

Great story, shame about the tone of the narration
What did you like best about Bookworm? What did you like least?
Loved the story, and the way it unfolded, disliked the narrators tone
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator's tone was fine when doing the accents for the different characters, whoever when reading the main narration has a really affected distant tone that just grated from the start. Wish I had downloaded a sample first.

hummmm
know its down to 'taste', but didn't like the narrator at all.........So much so, could only listen to the first couple of chapters and I've bought the sequel!! The author is a great writer, but listening to the reader, couldn't distinguish between characters or bring them to life for me.... It is my personal opinion..... Sorry guys

Clever and inventive!
Elaine is a low powered magician, an unlikely hero and a librarian. I listened to this book and the other 3 in the series all in a row and thoroughly enjoyed them all! Dread is a great character and so is Lightspinner. My favourite series by Christopher Nutthall!

An original story
I found the story very absorbing, I loved the idea of someone absorbing all the books in a library and becoming a bookworm. The narrator was clear and it was a pleasure to listen to her.

Interesting Storyline
I would categorise this book as Y.A. which I have not seen mentioned. However, an interesting storyline which kept me listening to the end.
I’m sorry but I didn’t think that the narrator suited the story. She uses ‘Received Pronunciation’ which belongs in a past decade.

young adult
This is very obviously written by a man. The stupid "sex" scenes and relations between male and female make it very clear. Old fashioned. But if you forget about this, its a good enough adventure. The narrator reminds me of someone from Downton Abbey, lady Mary. Didn't like her much.
