About this listen
Born with a secret power he must hide....
Telryn "Trip" Yert has always been a little odd, with hunches that are too accurate to explain. Magic is feared and forbidden in Iskandia, so he's struggled his whole life to hide his eccentricities. As a boy, he was forced to watch his mother's execution. Her crime? Witchcraft.
Understandably, Trip wants nothing to do with the power that lurks within him, always threatening to reveal itself. Instead, he dedicates himself to serving as an officer in the king's army, to battling pirates and imperial conquerors. He longs to become a soldier as respected and renowned as the legendary General Zirkander.
But his country is in need of more than a soldier.
After disappearing for over 1,000 years, dragons have returned to the world. A few of them are willing to be allies to mankind, as they were millennia before, but far more want to destroy or enslave humans and claim the world for themselves.
There are few people left with the power to fight dragons. For reasons he doesn't understand, Trip may be one of those people. But if he chooses to learn more about his heritage and the power he can wield, he risks losing everyone he loves and everything he longs to be.

The books suck you in!!
I love reading these books, they suck me in and that’s it until the whole series is finished. Then I am scouring the sites for the next set of Buroker books I can find

spin off
Set after the Dragon Blood series , this spin off introduces to new characters and some old favourites. Good first book can't wait to see what happens next.

As good a sequel as the original set
I must admit that I was a bit sceptical about a sequel series to the dragon blood series but once I got into listening to the first chapter I found I was enjoying it. Yes I missed the interaction between the original main characters but it wasn’t necessary to have all of them around. The narrator was pleasant and not over the top or monotonous like some books I’ve heard before and I would recommend this set to anyone who likes the original dragon blood series

The narration though...
The story wasn't good enough to get past that awful narration. I don't feel good about writing this review because I'm sure a lot of work went into writing and performing this book but ARGH!!!! The characters were 2 dimensional and the narration was so grating that I had to take breaks. The story had so much potential but the execution did not deliver. I dont know, maybe I'm just too old for this s#*!

Forget It!
I quite like Lindsay Buroker books, but this one definitely misses the mark. The narration left a lot to be desired; so much so I will not be purchasing book 2.
