Summary
Rule number one: Don't fall in love with your agent.
Trevor Underhill is a bottom D-pair grinder. A pest. The kind of player who makes it possible for the talent to score.
Off the ice, he looks out for himself and never trusts anyone but his sister to have his back.
Fresh off an ankle injury and annoyed that his endorsement deals keep falling through, he’s tired of his stuffy, boring agent telling him to clean up his act and grow up.
Love is the last thing he’s looking for with anyone.
Rule number two: Don’t give up on second chances.
Former player Wade Cannon spent years in the closet until his retirement.
Now with a successful career as an agent and an 11-year-old son, his priorities are work and his kid.
After the guy he was supposed to spend the rest of his life with bailed on them, he doesn’t trust anyone to stick around.
When members of the Evanston Otters team come to him for help, he and Trevor wind up working closely together.
Frustration leads to sizzling chemistry and an unexpected connection.
Falling in love with a client could jeopardize Wade’s career just as an explosive discovery threatens not only the Otters’ Cup win, but the very foundation of the team.
Trigger warning: Breaking the Rules includes talk of homophobia and homophobic slurs. It contains non-graphic mentions of sexual harassment and sexual assault and scenes of domestic violence.

Steamy hockey romance
An enjoyable read and a fitting finale to the series. This has a bit more plot than the previous as both the beginning and the end have a fair bit about Malone, the homophobic antagonist. It was great to see that storyline finally resolved.
Wade and Trevor were fun characters with a lot of chemistry, and Wade's son was adorable. My only criticism is that I feel it's a bit too long, and it drags a bit in places, but it's a decent read.

A great end to the series
I enjoyed the Rules of the Game series so I was really looking forward to Breaking the Rules. As always, Brigham Vaughn's writing style was wonderful and the author portrayed the story realistically and comprehensibly.
This time it's about Trevor and Wade. Trevor is a hockey player and Wade is his agent. The two have a complicated relationship when it comes to working together, but one night should change that. If you've listened to the whole series, you'll be looking forward to finding out more about Underhill, as I was. Wade is also a great character and I took him to my heart from the beginning because of his son and how he relates to him. His son is a real ray of sunshine.
You'll have to find out for yourself what happens next with Trevor and Wade, who are attracted to each other, but the chemistry is definitely there and I loved how their relationship developed.
But there are also other topics. Issues that are serious and are also taken seriously by Trevor's teammates. And you get a bit more insight into Trevor's past. I liked the way the author dealt with this sensitive topic and I was amazed at how far this went.
Breaking the Rules entertained me well and I think it's a pity that the series has now come to an end.
James Edward Jones narrated the audiobook and, as always, he did a good job bringing the story to life.

Entertaining and satisfying
Wade and Trevor's story was an entertaining and fulfilling way to wrap up this series. I was excited about their potential from the first time I saw their snappy, annoyed interactions, and their hate-to-love journey was so satisfying. I'm a sucker for misunderstood, reformed characters, and that's exactly what Trevor felt like to me. I could see how hard he was trying to clean up his image and become the man and hockey player he wanted to be, and though he had his ups and downs, his heart was always in the right place. Wade was understandably skeptical about Trevor's commitment to changing his ways at first, but the more time the two of them spent together figuring out a way to get dirt on Jack Malone, the more their sharpness and arguments softened. Their physical chemistry snapped into place shortly after that, and boy were some of their nights together steamy. I'm such a romantic at heart, so I was sold on the idea of them together without much debate, but Trevor and Wade needed more time to decide if a romantic relationship was worth the risk. In the meantime the Malone situation was escalating in a particularly negative way, and I was really feeling the suspense as I waited to see if they would be able to expose this guy for some of his awful actions. The end of the story veered in a direction I was not expecting at all, but I'm so proud of the strength and integrity the whole team showed. I was already feeling emotional about Trevor and Wade's happy ending, but getting to see all the characters I've grown to love over the course of this series play fantastic hockey together and set off on the next chapters of their lives was a wonderful way to say goodbye.

The hockey jock and the single dad
This is the second Brigham Vaughn audiobook I’ve listened to – and I have to say I’m a fan. This story involves Wade, the stuffy by-the-book agent, and Trevor, the hockey star – and twenty years Wade’s junior – who can’t seem to keep himself out of trouble.
Trevor’s edgy – and he’s looking for endorsement deals. He wants Wade to nail those deals. Wade’s coping with Trevor’s antics off the ice – including a friendship with another player with questionable morals (more about that later). The men argue any number of times, but there’s an underlying element of sexual tension that eventually explodes.
Also, there’s an Otters player whose behavior is threatening the reputation of the team. Several of Trevor’s teammates approach Wade. Once Trevor sees the real person behind the man he believed to be his friend, he wants to bring the man down once and forever. Things get tricky for the men as they navigate both that goal as well as their feelings for each other. Both have been burned in the past – so neither is quick to love. Throw in an 11-year-old boy, a puppy named Pepperoni, and some gentle (and not so subtle) nudges from their friends, and maybe – just maybe – the men might find their way to each other.
I have to say, I really like James Edward Jones’s narration of these books. He does a great job and I can’t wait for more to come.

Sad to see the end but so incredibly good!
James Edward Jones has become synonymous with Brigham Vaughn’s incredible hockey series in my mind. I hear his amazing voice and just know I’m going to have an enjoyable few hours of listening time. This series was spectacular and I was so glad to see the Jack Malone storyline all buttoned up and have the River Otters come out on top. Wade and Trevor have incredible chemistry and this book is one of my favorites!

This book focuses largely on a side character and prior storyline so I would highly suggest reading the previous books before reading this one.
I really liked Wade from the start but Trevor came off as a hothead who thought things should just be given to him despite his bad attitude. He really had to grow on me. He was nice to his sister and fan kids so it made it easy to give him a chance and luckily his bad mood changed quite quickly. The couple was great together and the story was really sweet without any real drama or angst involving the couple. It was a nice slow burn with a perfect amount of steam. Their relationship moved at a great pace. No instalove but not too drawn out.
The problem I had with enjoying this book was the fact that the whole story was about bringing down a side character. Don't get me wrong, I hate Malone and wanted forever for the author to get rid of him but I didn't want a whole story focused on him with no definite conclusion. I was hoping he'd just get hit by a bus or something lol. I really don't want to hear his name again but I doubt I'll get my wish. Even still I didn't hate the story. It kept my interest from start to finish. I liked the sweet couple moments, the moments with Wades son and the team coming together like a big found family. The ending was really sweet.
Charlie sounded so cute so I'm off to read the Husband Game.
James Edward Jones did a great performance. His voice is very enjoyable to listen to and he brought the story to life. He kept a good pace and expressed the emotions wonderfully. He gave all the characters distinct voices that suited them well and made it easy to follow the story. I absolutely would listen to this narrator again. Other than this authors previous books I havent heard his name before but his tone is very pleasant to listen to. i definitely recommend listening to him.

Fantastic! All good things...
must come to an end but when done so well it's just so much better!!
Such a well rounded and uplifting ending given the hard topics and emotional mess everyone has to fight through to get there!
Trevor was so much more than I was expecting and his character arc was interesting, powerful, emotional and captivating all at once. He grew from a rough, rude, standoffish person to an open, honest, caring, compassionate and powerful leader (even if he doesn't think so).
Wade is his perfect match. The chemistry started with a sizzle, the back and forth and banter fun but it was refreshing to see that actually cool and settle into so much more as the story progresses.
I praise Ms Vaughn for creating these characters, this team and this family and for tackling some very important and powerful issues throughout the series but particularly coming to a head in this finale.
I loved the series and this Trevor and Wade might now be one of my favorite couples. Such a fantastic end to the series!!

Great end to the series
Wow, what a final book. There's redemption for Trevor, a sometimes lazy, angry player,in the previous books. I always knew Trevor wasn't a bad guy but i didn't anticipate his story being one of my favourites. Wade is a former player and Trevor's agent and 20 plus years his senior but somehow they are perfect for each other. As well as their relationship, this books wraps up the issue of Jack Malone and addresses toxic behaviour in sports.
The narrator does an excellent job.
Highly Recommended.

Loved this last book in the series!
Just as much as I did the whole series! Loved Trevor and Wade , their banter is epic, as are their sweeter and vulnerable moments as they get to know each other! And, oh, are their encounters steamy!
Loved James Edward Jones’s performance, too!

Wonderful series ending
I loved Trevor in this story and watching him grow into the man that was always there just under the surface of the swagger and attitude. The character I really fell for, however, was Wade. He's got so much on his plate as a father and as a retired player trying to maintain a successful career now as an agent. He feels the weight of the world on his shoulders and doesn't need the Trevor he initially sees adding complications to his life. Fortunately, as these two get to know each other they discover that they make a great team personally and seeing them with Wade's son is just delightful and heartwarming. There are some serious issues addressed about the privilege some athletes have to get away with things no one should and the strength it takes to stand up and call those things out. A wonderful romance as well as a great plot close out this series on a super high note. James Edward Jones did a great job with the characters and the emotions in this one. We hear the "real" Trevor in his performance as well as all the stress Wade is under trying to go it alone at the beginning.
