THE EPIC NEW NOVEL FROM THE AWARD-WINNING, BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE BOOK THIEF

***********************

Here is a story told inside out and back to front

Five Dunbar brothers are living – fighting, loving, grieving – in the perfect chaos of a house without grown-ups. Today, the father who left them has just walked right back in.
He has a surprising request: Who will build a bridge with him?

It is Clay, a boy tormented by a long-buried secret, who accepts. But why is Clay so broken? And why must he fulfil this extraordinary challenge?

Bridge of Clay is about a boy caught in a current, a boy intent on destroying everything he has in order to become everything he needs to be. Ahead of him lies the bridge, the vision that will save both his family and himself.

It will be a miracle and nothing less.

At once an existential riddle and a search for redemption, this tale of five brothers coming of age in a house with no rules brims with energy, joy and pathos. Written in Markus Zusak's distinctive style, it is a tour de force from a master storyteller of the heart.

Markus Zusak's epic new novel BRIDGE OF CLAY is due out this October 2018

excellent narration by the author

excellent narration by the author of what, surprisingly, turned out to be a very moving story. I really enjoyed hearing of the family dynamics. After an enjoyable slowish start the complexities of the characters built, I didn't want to stop listening.

Markus Zusak as his best

Every bit as good as The Book Thief. Beautifully written and heartbreakingly sad.

This is not a fast page turner, or a pacy thriller. It is a story of love, of loss, of family and relationships. Markus narrates his story as it's meant to be told, with tenderness, emotion and a gentle pace. This is a book that Is definitely in my top 10.

Beautiful

The hypnotic narration of this book is exquisite. At times almost poetic in its telling. Wonderful book, vibrant characters, and an amazing narration. Off to download another book by Markus Zusak

I wish I loved it

I absolutely loved the book thief so I tried so many times with this book but I just couldn’t get into it. It’s beautifully written but I couldn’t cope with the narration. I will try again by reading the book instead.

Outstanding

Superbly, heartwarmingly read by the author, in his words; a suburban epic. Utterly compelling story

You read it and you’re there

I know their house, the colour, the smells, the animals and the boys.
Markus Zusak seems to be capable of pulling you into other people’s lives with his words.
It’s so real and so beautiful and I felt it all.

Ignore this; read the book, now.

I heard the author speak on Radio 4 and was intrigued. I went to Audible and bought the book. I finished it six days later; it would have been sooner but life got in the way. To call this a novel is not enough. It is an outpouring of raw emotion, full of laughs and tears, warmth and heartbreak. The narration is powerful and sympathetic, rendered by one who was there.
I will read this again, but not as an observer, more as a member of that wonderful community.
This is story telling at its very best, and made for your ears. Thank you Markus.

A passionate tale about love, death and brothers

I don't want to say this but reviews are about honesty and honestly, I didn't like the narration. It was by the author so he knew exactly how he wanted the book/characters to sound and unfortunately, they sounded the same. Which should be fine as he is just reading but when there were some conversations I struggled to know who was talking which go confusing at times.

This doesn't take away from the fact it was a stellar book. Characters that you felt for backstories that were interesting. A far cry from the book thief but could be another classic.

DEFINATELY RECOMMEND
