Summary
Can we justify putting our jobs before our family? What happens when we try to rectify it? Is the right solution always the first choice or do we just get the job done? Sometimes what happens to our children says more about us than our kids. When Adrian's father gets a promotion it means moving to a new city and new school, fitting in for Adrian isn't as simple as he thought.

A Very Realistic Example Of Bullying
Whilst the topic of bullying is addressed and it's coming into the forefront, the victims of bullying truly suffer. "Bullied" is a very empowering short story of how it feels and gives ways to stop it. My own son was bullied as a small child and he kept it to himself until one morning I caught him trying to hang himself rather than having to get on the bus and face the abuse once again. I had no idea it had even been happening as neither him nor my daughter told me about it.
I went straight to the boys' (2 brothers) house and spoke directly to their mother. Not all bullies come from abusive homes, but later that night the boys' father came to our house drunk and screaming at our house making threats on our lives. I called the police and he was arrested. A month later I found out they had moved from the area.
But the damage was done, my son was not able to ride the bus again so I began taking the children and picking them up. It was a hardship I was happy to endure because the health and well-being of my child was the most important thing to me. My intervention not only saved my son's life, but it showed him that there were real and workable ways to deal with bullying. It empowered him and he was never again bullied. He is married and a father of 2 lovely girls, now, and lives a very happy life.
I highly recommend this story for anyone who is being bullied or knows someone who is. I hope it gives them the courage to tell someone what is happening. It's not "telling" or "tattling" or grassing anyone up. It's fighting back the right way. Cheers to Mr. McDermott for a well written story!
