About this listen
Shortlisted for Best New Writer of the Year - The British Sports Book Awards 2012
This book is both a lesson in true grit and determination, but its goal is one that is attainable. Andy isn't a sporting superstar, he holds down a nine-to-five job and all the pressures that go with it; he isn’t blessed with speed and talent; there are no multi-million pound sponsorship deals; yet this remarkable "common man" is inspiring in a way that some of today’s sporting superstars have forgotten how to be. You wouldn’t recognize Andy in the street, yet his story provides valuable lessons to us all: "Never give up" and "Anything is possible".

It's all in the narration
If you could sum up Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run in three words, what would they be?
I have had an excellent time listening to this audiobook but maybe not for the reasons you would expect. The story is great and quite inspirational it makes you want to be there and take part in all of Andy's training and races. This was not the problem, the narration however was having a narrator who pronounces all the words incorrectly was quite amusing ie du-vet instead of duvet is just one of the many baffling points. The most distracting though was the narrator sounded like prince William at the age of five doing a billy idol impression while squeezing in every dialect of the uk. For this reason alone download this book

Narrator is so bad it is funny
Good story, a lot cliches but honest. Difficult to get through with the constant pronunciation errors

i listened to this as I run...it was fun
As English is not my first language the reader did not bother me ( i am referring here at the other reviews) The story is great, fun and well written...so really loved it and would read/ listen to the next one from the same author (Can't Sleep, Can't Train, Can't Stop).

Great content - terrible narrator!
I really enjoyed the journey of the author in his quest to compete and break is own pbs in iron man but the narration was appalling. It was so bad at times i nearly gave up on it. If i could have given the ‘performance’ a negative star scoring i would have.
In this instance i would recommend reading the book.

Great book ruined by a guy who can speak English!
Would you try another book written by Andy Holgate or narrated by Gregory St. John?
Great book ruined by a guy who cannot speak English! the performance of Gregory St. John is THE worst I have had the misfortune to listen to in my several years and 100's of audio books! Andy's story deserved better than this - his journey was inspirational and has reignited my motivation to complete the full distance Ironman! Buy the paperback and give this one a miss... sorry to say
Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Gregory St. John?
Anyone who could read and pronounce English... if you are going to read a book to an audience at least know how to pronounce the word triathlon. (Although that said some of the mis-pronouncements were so bad that they had me in stiches… )
Was Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run worth the listening time?

since when is triathlon 2 words?
Would you try another book written by Andy Holgate or narrated by Gregory St. John?
Written by Iron hols? yes, i really enjoyed the narrative and nearly signed up for a Ironman on the spot (i didn't fortunately). as for a book read by Mr St John? Not a chance! he could not pronounce so much of the book thta i really did not enjoy the book even though the tale was one that i ge the feeling was well written.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run?
Gregory St John not being able to pronounce triathlon
How could the performance have been better?
learning to speak English would be a start.
Did Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run inspire you to do anything?
Just train harder, only doing the 1/2 iron this year but soon i shall go all the way.

The book sounds ok, but the reader is atrocious.
Less than a hour listened to and I’ve had to stop it. It’s like he’s reading English as a second language.
Pronouncing all sorts of words strangely.
You’d think the place name of Cockerham would have been a given to at least be told how to pronounce.
Waste of a credit this simply cos I can’t listen to him anymore.

The story is good but the narration is terrible. Was it done by a computer? Hurt my ears!
