Summary

Charles Boxer, ex-army, ex-police, has found his niche in private security. His speciality: high-stakes kidnap resolution. But it's a rootless life that doesn't impress his teenage daughter, Amy, or her mother, Detective Sergeant Mercy Danqah. Alyshia D'Cruz, daughter of Indian tycoon Francisco 'Frank' D'Cruz, has grown up in London and Mumbai wanting for nothing. But one night, after a boozy evening out, she gets in the wrong cab home...

When D'Cruz hires Boxer to find Alyshia, Boxer knows Frank's colourful business career has made him plenty of enemies along the way. Despite the vast D'Cruz fortune, the kidnappers don't want cash - instead favouring a cruel and lethal game. But the UK government don't want their big new investor to lose his daughter in the heart of the capital. MI6 officers in India follow Boxer's leads and soon it seems more lives than Alyshia's are at stake, as the trail crosses paths with a terrorist plot on British soil.

To save Alyshia, Boxer must dodge religious fanatics, Indian mobsters and London's home-grown crime lords. CAPITAL PUNISHMENT is a journey to the dark side of people and places that lie just out of view, waiting for the moment to tear a life apart. Read by Steven Pacey. Steven Pacey is best known for his role as Del Tarrant in the third and fourth seasons of the sci-fi series Blake's 7.

He has worked extensively in Theatre, TV and film for many years and in 2009 played opposite Graham Norton in La Cage Aux Folles at London's Playhouse Theatre. He has read numerous audiobooks, including Sunday Times bestseller Joe Abercrombie, and abridged titles by Matthew Reilly. Produced by Peter Rinne.

Too complex and hard to follow

Too complex, too many characters, difficult to care about any of them and hard to follow. I love Steven Pacey and chose this author from Pacey’s list of books. He does not let me down in this book. However the intricacy of the plot and the characters from all over the world left me confused at times as to exactly who they were and how the story came together. I think there is a good story in there, probably well written but too much intricacy and too many characters can ruin a good story.

Hooked!

I purchased this after listening to the Falcon series which I thoroughly enjoyed so after reading the reviews I took the plunge!

Steven Pacey does an excellent job with the narration - I was hooked on the Jussi Adler-Olsen books which were also excellently narrated and wasn't disappointed with this one.

Great story keeps you listening to find out what happens next and finishes leaving you hanging for the next instalment which I'm off to get now!

Very good book.

If you could sum up Capital Punishment in three words, what would they be?

A riveting story.

What other book might you compare Capital Punishment to, and why?

It's one on it's own.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Steven Pacey?

Yes.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Most of it the book kept me want to just keep listening to the end, then sorry when it ended.

Any additional comments?

So glad that he has continued with another book which I am about to start.

Great new author discovered on 2 for 1 offer!

The offer tempted me to try out this author who I had not come across before - and what a bargain I got. With a kidnap as it's central theme this story has complex gangland and terrorist connections stretching from London to India - sees the private security sector jostling with the police and security services all of whom have different agendas; and also manages to very succinctly introduce you to the personal lives of the central characters so that you feel you really get to know them as the story progresses. It pulled me in from the very beginning and most importantly the ending is good - if not totally unforeseen. Steven Pacey's performance is extraordinary, coping as he does with strong male/female roles and a number of different nationalities all of which he makes just subtly different so that you are always aware of who you are listening to. I very nearly gave this 5 stars throughout but I did struggle a little on occasions working out the links and grievances of some of the characters - but I am quite sure someone with a better memory won't have that problem. I am now going to look to see what else there is from Robert Wilson - another Charles Boxer story I hope - a great character!

Fast paced, non stop thriller

A realistic trip into the seedy streets of London where we encounter drugs, prostitution, murder and primarily kidnapping. Charlie Boxer is an ex military specialist and cop who now privately handles high stakes, high profile kidnappings
An ex-assassin with a conscience and a strong sense of morality??

A brilliant narrator for a great book!

This was my first Robert Wilson book and I absolutely loved it! Steven Pacey as a narrator is just phenomenal. He manages to bring every single one of the characters to life. This is a great listen that sweeps you along with it!

As absorbing as the Spanish series

Keeping track of all the names and characters was something of a challenge here, but once into the tortuous twists and turn of this tale, I was unable to stop reading/listening till the end!
And Mr.Pacey's command of such a range of accents is amazing!
