Summary
It's Christmas Eve at St Mary's. And all through the house. Nothing is stirring.... Except for Max, Peterson, and Markham, sneaking out at midnight for an assignment that is very definitely off the books.
It was ten years ago tonight that senior historians Bashford and Grey went missing in 12th century Jerusalem. So how did they end up in AD 60 Roman Colchester?
Max has a theory. Peterson has a plan. Markham has bacon sandwiches. Colchester has Boudicca and her bloodthirsty Iceni hordes.
And then there's the giant pig...the enraged, giant pig....
Jodi Taylor is and always has been a history nut. Her disinclination to get out of bed for anything after 1485 can only be overcome by massive amounts of chocolate, and sometimes, if it's raining, not even then. She wanted to write a book about time travel that was a little different and, not having a clue how difficult this would make her book to classify, went ahead and slung in elements of history, adventure, comedy, romance, tragedy, and anything else she could think of. Her advice to booksellers is to buy huge numbers of her books and just put one on every shelf.

Brilliant Characterisation
I really enjoy the novellas in the Chronicles of St Mary's series. They're short but they are excellent at characterisation. Having used them as a way to get into the main series and to see if the main series was worth purchasing, I really want to read more, because they're just brilliant.
This one felt like you needed to know the main story to fully grasp though, which is why it wasn't a five star.

Stunning idea, well written
Something no one expected, there's no clue to it in any of the full length books. I wonder if the ramifications will be included in No Time like the Past or any of the future full length books.
I have to admit it was a marvel to listen to and a perfect Christmas present for Guthrie.

Time and history as a present
A great short story to add to the Chronicles of St. Mary and an explanation to what happened to pod number 4. Plus more adventure and closure of some questions.
Excellent.

Very entertaining Christmas story
Another clever, funny and entertaining short story from Jodi Taylor with a touching ending. Excellently read by Zara Ramm as usual.

A delightful Christmas Present
Another chapter in the St Mary’s saga, short but perfectly formed. The narration by Zara Ramm is one of the things that makes this series of books and stories come to life. She has a very rye sort of ‘tongue in cheek’ way of reading that is both engrossing and easily accessible. She brings out the characters and holds the listeners interest from beginning to end.
I’m off to get the next instalment now.

Wonderful!!
I adore all Jodi Taylor books!
Narration by Zara Ramm is always amazing and wish no one else was narrating any of her books.
Although this is a very short book it does not lack for depth and character. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
