About this listen

A thrilling new adventure featuring literature’s favourite detective like you’ve never seen him before. The first in a series, Clockwork Sherlock follows ex-soldier Captain Jo Barnes. The mysterious VR detective singles her out as his own Dr Watson, but he’s about to find out she’s no fawning sidekick.

When tech giant Robert Fairfield is found dead of a suspected drug overdose, fingers are pointed at the two women who stood most to gain from his death: his fiancée and leader of the New Ludds, Greta Blackstone, and Beth Fairchild, Robert’s ambitious daughter. But when Beth is found dead and the evidence shows she was killed before her father, the suspect is obvious. To everyone, that is, except Sherlock Holmes.

Using futuristic tech and good, old-fashioned sleuthing, Captain Barnes and the famed detective set out to find the killer. With rooftop pursuits, gangland bosses and plenty of action - this listen is sure to appeal to fans of Ben Aaronovitch, Paul Cornell and Jim Butcher.

I've enjoyed several of Ian W Salisbury's books, and this proved no exception. I'm very much looking forward to more Clockwork Sherlock adventures.

I wasn’t sure what to expect but it turned out to be a highly engaging read. I kept making excuses to listen and got through the whole thing in just a day or two. Worth a credit for sure.

Engaging story and character

Really enjoyed Clockwork Sherlock once I got my head around the VR concept! Well worth a read if you’re into ‘who done it’ stories!

A unique and riveting take on the traditional Sherlock construct. My book of the year. Loved it.

As a fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories , film/tv adaptations and also sci-fi I didn't know what to expect but it was surprisingly enjoyable. i didn't read the description because i like to be surprised.
Would recommend for someone who likes a thriller, a murderer mistery with a bit of science fiction. the sci-fi part was not overly complicated that you don't know what's going on, it was cleverly built and explained when needed which resulted in an immersive world building experience. I liked the story and the elements of humour. I chose this book blindly knowing nothing about it, the protagonist is not Sherlock Holmes which put me off at first but i gave it a chance and I'm glad i did. It's a fun listen. I has two twists which i appreciated and a satisfying conclusion.
Narrator was good, accents were also ok but i can't really judge, I'm not a native English speaker. 4/5 because it's not the most amazing thing I've ever read/listened to but still pretty good.

Quite enjoyed it

I thoroughly enjoyed this modern take on the Holmes stories. The near future setting works very well and the characters have an authentic feel, both to the spirit of the original stories and to this new world. I felt the narration was well delivered and that the pace was good. Oh and there’s a couple of nice twists that come out of nowhere, or at least the did for me! This is the first book I’ve listened to from the author and will listen to his other work, as well as hoping for another book in this series.

Nice modern take on the classic
