About this listen
Faking a relationship with an injured hockey player had never been on Eliot's to-do list. When he's sent by his editor at Cocky to interview the newly out hockey legend Danny Harper, though, he gets a little more than he bargained for.
Eliot has been stuck writing a men's fashion and grooming column that no one reads since he started at Cocky - a men's lifestyle magazine - a year ago. Desperate to prove himself, he takes the assignment to interview Harper, even though he couldn't necessarily hold a hockey stick the right way up in an emergency.
Danny turns out to be nothing like he expected - a lonely man who's missed out on a lot by being in the closet rather than the overconfident jock Eliot expects him to be. As much as he doesn't want to be, Eliot finds himself drawn to the other man.
When Danny proposes they fake a relationship to improve his image, Eliot jumps at the chance - not only does he need the money, but his curiosity about Danny demands to be satisfied.
With Danny struggling to get through the season on a busted knee and Eliot digging up the story that could make his career, can the two of them admit their real feelings and find their happy ending?
Contains mature themes.

This was a sweet story and once again I was happy that miscommunication wasn't used to drive the plot forward. This book offers a delightful and feel-good experience, perfect for those seeking light enjoyment.
🎧 I love Joel Leslie but I really didn't quite get what he was doing with Eliot's accent. It was still a good performance.

One of the reasons it feels like a bad book is because either a 15-year-old wrote this, or the author did zero research on life, economics, LA, hockey, sports, or basically anything. He's a pro hockey athlete legend with a manager, and he acts like paying $500 a month in LA is a generous offer and a lot of money 😂 what?!!!! That's 16 dollars a day... a movie ticket costs more than that 😂
In one scene, the athlete busts his knee, and they're talking cute, and they decide to go home... home?! No way, they would run to therapy to check that the knee is ideally in place.
And the "Why do you get a car in LA?" chat made me laugh so hard.... has the author ever been to LA? It's literally called THE driving city because everyone has a car, and it's insane to use public transportation.
I'm sure if the author stuck to the quote "write what you know" Maybe, maybe their stories would feel less shallow and bland.
