Summary
1/12/2020 - this is the revised edition
For Howie, the lonely barista, he longed for the dream life. Husband, house with a white picket fence, 2.5 kids and a dog. Sadly, all he could get were meaningless one night stands leaving him feeling empty.
Jackson Milsap, the introverted writer, quietly pined for Howie from the corner of the café. Stepping outside of his comfort zone and asking him out on a date sent his social anxiety into overdrive. That was until the day he came to Howies rescue, forever changing both their lives.
This story was part of the Between The Covers limited edition anthology.

loved it!
I loved this story! it wasn't all about sex like so many others. it was more about creating a bond with a traumatized lover! it really hit home. i loved the characters and the narrator did an awesome job!

Sweet but I wanted more 😐
Like my coffee, I don’t like my romances too sweet - this was a little too sugary for my taste, but I’m sure others will love it. Lonely barista, Howie, doesn’t know how to attract the attention of introverted writer and daily customer, Jackson, until an abusive customer helps. I guess there are plenty of people out there like Howie - immature, needy, uncertain, and with low self-esteem, who catastrophise everything. In contrast, Jackson was patient, loving and steady. Despite the short length of the story, this was an interesting character study, contrasting the solid Jackson with the emotional Howie. The only real hurdles the couple face are Howie’s emotional hang ups. I always cut find backstories important - they anchor the characters and give us useful context about current behaviours. Furthermore, they flesh out the characters and make them more substantial. Here they would have added some welcome bitterness to balance out the sugar. Howie’s backstory was painted in quick but deft strokes, while Jackson’s was threadbare. The characters were interesting and I would have avidly spent time with their pasts. 🎧 I enjoyed Charles Armstrong’s narration - he provided good emotional depth and pacing. He was a new narrator for me and I’d be keen to hear more.

Short but sweet
Loved it. narration hit the spot. If the author had expanded into a full novel, I am sure I would have loved too.

Howie and Jackson
Short sweet read about Howie, who hasn't had the best of life and is wanting Jackson the writer who comes into the Cafe/bookstore, aptly named Caffeinated Books. Shows their first date and then that Jackson doesn't want to leave, but stay with Howie

Short and Sweet
I really enjoyed this story! The characters were raw and endearing, so believable in their quirks, interests, and sensitivities! The plot was shot, sweet, spicy and didn't leave anything t be desired. The narration was spot on! I enjoyed every bit of it! The narrator obviously enjoyed all the characters. I look forward to more from both author and narrator!

A Sweet Meet-Cute
This was a really cute short story about a barista and the author he has a crush on. I thought it was a sweet story that had just enough angst to make the happy ending feel really good. The audiobook was narrated by Charles Armstrong who did a great job with all the character voices. The audiobook production was well done and overall I found this super cute and enjoyable.
