About this listen
With his wife, the acclaimed actress Stella Pinero, away on a movie shoot in Scotland, Chief Commander John Coffin is at a bit of a loose end with just the cat and dog for company. But one morning, as he checks through the mail for his wife, he gets a rather unpleasant surprise: Horrific pictures of badly abused children sent anonymously to Stella. Rather than worry his wife, he vows to track down the culprit and calls in a trusted colleague, DCI Phoebe Astley, to assist him in his inquiries.
As they investigate Stella's stalker, another serious problem faces the detectives of the Second City of London. Several young girls have been murdered in Spinnergate with distinct and brutal similarities between the cases. Is there a serial killer on the loose? What is the connection to Stella Pinero, or is it all coincidence? As the investigations get closer to each other in focus, Coffin starts to feel that there are very personal motives at play as his wife's tormentor racks up the tension. When excavations near St Luke's unearth a chilling secret buried in the grounds of Stella's theater, John feels the net closing around those nearest to him and must act quickly or risk losing all that he holds dear.
A gripping exploration of hidden desires and terrors, Coffin Knows the Answer poses some disturbing questions about identity and relationships in the modern world.

Good characters. Brilliant narration
The characters are well drawn and the stories interesting to listen to. I’m sad that this is the last one and second the request for the missing books to be recorded.
Someone made a comment about mistakes in the book, but they aren’t really mistakes although may seem to be. The ambiguity about the new cat’s gender was deliberate and mirrored a minor undercurrent in the story. Also Coffin both wanted Phoebe and she applied. He engineered it.
There are lots of small stories and characters that get carried on from book to book.
I do however wish some of the stories were less sensational. I don’t think that was necessary to make them compelling reading.
Still listened to all of the books recorded, however, and the narration is brilliant.

More please
I have really enjoyed these books from the John Coffin series, but there are several earlier books, and also later ones, which are not available as audiobooks or on kindle. Please record more of them; with Nigel Carrington narrating. He is excellent and does a brilliant job of getting into Coffin’s character. Lovely tone of voice and very attractive;I could listen to him reading the telephone directory, but would rather have the rest of the Coffin books.

It will be my last Coffin, too many mistakes
Quite a few errors when you've read the whole series, For example the nameless cat changes sex frequently starts off as girl, boy, girl, boy, girl etc..... Its a BOY! Phoebe wasn't recruited by Coffin, she followed him because the needed to leave behind a stalker, she thought she was dying and still had feelings for John. Much later on he promotes her.
I also found the details of child abuse too graphic and traumatic. The reasons behind the killings and the motive seemed Bizarre. Stella Pineros double barreled name became irritating. Found this book hard to finish...

Not for me
Enjoy who done it and police procedurals which this series of books have been so far. But do not want to listen to mutulated children’s photos and paedophials the author has gone to far for me.
