Summary

The latest ‘Jack Haldean’ mystery, set in the Roaring Twenties

A hundred thousand dragons lie, underneath an Arabian sky. How do a few lines of poetry, a chance encounter in a London hotel, and a death in Sussex lead to a lost city of Arabia, and to the tombs of the Whispering Dead? Jack Haldean has evaded the truth for years, but now, enmeshed in the web of murder, theft and deception, he must find the answer and face up to the truth – a truth as deadly as any dragon...

Really enjoyable story.

Couldn’t put this one down and listened in one go. It has a bit of everything, adventure, thrills and humour. Great narration too.

A quite good adventure story

I think that people who like Indiana Jones will enjoy this novel. It was a little bit slow in parts, and perhaps there was too much dialogue, but it was enjoyable. I was pleased that there was no sex, no bad language, and very little violence. The narrator and sound quality were excellent. The narrator is very good with all the voices, including both male and female. I will read/listen to other books by this author.

Rip roaring yarn

Nice and pacy. Very much old school Biggles. Brilliantly narrated with great grasp of accents. I wish I could find books 1-3

More Adventure Than Mystery

Jack Haldean is a cross between Indiana Jones and Clark Kent, in the adventurous 1920s. From the luxurious English Country House to the immense and impressive Egyptian landscape and the city of Petra. If you're looking for adventure then you've come to the right place!

Well-narrated but slow-moving.

The narration is good, but in pursuit of period detail, the writer has sacrificed pace and plot.

I was appalled by the racist language at the beginning- this should never have got past the editing stage. Presumably the author was going for period authenticity, but it was both unnecessary and unpleasant.

I was also unclear why we were supposed to sympathise with the ghastly fascist admiring Freya - Jack’s obsession with her beggared belief!
