I really enjoyed listening to this book. The writing is seemingly simple, very descriptive, but it made me picture each scene clearly and precisely. I liked the young-generation details incorporated in every interaction of characters, as well as the fact that although the plot isn't dense, it is never straightforward and it surprises at places. The narrator changes voices for each character which made me smile at times, and it served the purpose perfectly. I was reserving time slots to listen to it because I wanted to hear and focus on each word. It also helps to spark reflection for introverts.

Aoife McMahon's narration is excellent and Sally Rooney's writing is reliably brilliant BUT the audio quality is fuzzy as though it's coming through a thin layer of cotton wool. I've had to work really hard to overcome my aversion to this as the book and performance are really worth a listen.

I loved the narrator's voice, accent and tones, I think she made the book more interesting than it was. I did like the author's style of writing and the way she describes things but the plot itself was poor and I didn't really like any of the characters and by the end I'd lost patience with them all! Overall this was sadly a bit of a disappointment.

It’s my favorite book from Rooney, love her narrative style. I couldn’t stop listening, the performance of the narrator was outstanding, the best from any audiobook I’ve ever read

I loved Normal People and found myself loving this too. Drawn in by the complex characters and subtle action, I couldn't put it down. It's like a warm bath. Becoming a proper fan now- need to read all of Rooney's stuff. 10/10.

Rooney does it again!

After reading Normal People, I gave this one a go, to fill out my knowledge of the Sally Rooney-verse. Without making comparisons, I really enjoy Rooney’s conversational, easy style. Her writing on endometriosis throughout CWF is a really compelling portrait of life with chronic pain. I will say I didn’t find the romance (if you can consider it romance!!) elements of the story so engaging, I often felt rather uncomfortable and disbelieving. Overall, a good book, an easy read, and a wonderful reading by McMahon.

Having finished Intermezzo which I loved I was keen to read another novel by Sally Rooney, who’s work I found very relatable- I searched Google for a recommendation of her best work and I saw this was rated higher than Intermezzo- I realise there is a huge audience for sad stories but I found the latter part of this book depressing and I couldn’t wait to finish it - I think Sally Rooney is incredibly talented but I couldn’t enjoy the sadness of Frances’ pain
