Summary
TO STEAL A MAN'S FREEDOM ALL IT TAKES IS . . . CONVICTION
Wade Darling stands accused of killing his wife and teenage children as they slept before burning the family home to the ground.
When the case lands on barrister Neve Harper’s desk, she knows it could be the career making case she’s been waiting for. But only if she can prove Wade’s innocence.
A matter of days before the case, as Neve is travelling home for the night, she is approached by a man. He tells her she must lose this case or the secret about her own husband’s disappearance will be revealed.
Failing that, he will kill everyone she cares about until she follows orders.
Neve must make a choice – betray every principle she has ever had by putting a potentially innocent man in prison, or risk putting those she loves in mortal danger.
For fans of Steve Cavanagh, Linwood Barclay and Gillian McAllister, introducing the latest novel from the master of the moral dilemma, Jack Jordan.

Jack Jordan does it again!!!
Another fantastic book from Jack Jordan. The tension he creates is second to none, from descriptive words that make you feel the thought and feeling of the main character. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a suspenseful, word gripping story of secrets and sly deceit. The ratings speak from themselves, from the story and the performance (the story flowed great and the actor got every voice of each character nailed).

Sitting not Sat !!!!
It was a good story but with some annoying errors. The constant use of ‘sat’ instead of ‘sitting’ and ‘stood’ instead of ‘standing’ was really annoying. The reference to the need for someone to be guilty ‘without a shadow of a doubt’ instead of ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ was shoddy. It’s probably a bit pedantic but once I heard these things their frequency started to take over and spoil my enjoyment. The author is imaginative, it was an interesting storyline, but a bit more attention to detail (or some decent copy editing) might improve things.

Enjoyable Murder Case
I really enjoyed this apart from one tiny thing. The constant use of 'sat' instead of 'sitting' and the use of 'stood' instead of 'standing'. I know it's widely accepted now but it grated on me every single time I was sitting 😉 here and had to hear the incorrect version. 😞
Other than that it was brilliant and really enjoyable.

Dreadful plot and worse writing
I wish I’d kept a proper count of the number of clichéd phrases (“deafening silence”, “churning stomach”, “streaming tears”) which litter almost every page. I have rarely read such appalling writing. Speaking positively, the plot has pace and a few twists which just about held my attention but overall this is a very unsophisticated and unsatisfying piece of writing. I won’t be bothering with this author again. Don’t waste your time!
