About this listen
1072: England is firmly under the heel of its new Norman rulers. The few survivors of the English resistance look to Edgar the Atheling to overthrow William the Conqueror. Years of intrigue and vicious civil war follow and in the face of chaos and death, Edgar and his allies form a secret brotherhood, pledging to fight for justice and freedom. But soon they are called to fight for an even greater cause: the plight of the Holy Land.
Embarking on the epic First Crusade to recapture Jerusalem, together they will participate in some of the cruellest battles the world has ever known.

comrades and crusades
An excellent overview of the battles and codes of conduct as well as a overview of English and French history of the noble men and their personal goals as they travel to Jerusalem to fight for the Holy land. Will definitely listen to this again

Terrible narration of an overall very poor story.
I read this book when I was younger and half remembered enjoying it. In light of revisiting this one, I decided to start with the first book of this series Conquer, regrettably I was woefully underwhelmed, so much so I tuned it off and haven’t looked back at it.
In the vein hope that the author was just having a bad day with the first in the series, and in the half memory of what I thought was a good story I ploughed on to this book.
Alas, another lacklustre story that plays out like a bad superhero movie. Characters that seem superhuman in their abilities, that jump from one conflict to another no matter where it is, seeming to change the course of every encounter they’re involved in no matter the odds.
Sadly i think the writing could have been saved to a modicum of a degree by a better narration performance. But, the performance is woefully inadequate. From his monotone delivery to horrible voice acting.
In short a massive let down, and a writer and narrator I will be avoiding in the future.
