Summary

Dante is Chapter Master of one of the noblest but most troubled Chapters of Space Marines in the Imperium: the Blood Angels. From the time of his birth in the rad-scarred wastes of Baal Secundus, he was destined for glory and strife.

From his apotheosis to Scout, to the hive cities of Armageddon and the alien menace of the Cryptus system, Dante has waged war against all the enemies of the Imperium. He has witnessed the divine, and struggled against the darkness within all sons of Sanguinius. Longer lived than any other Chapter Master, this is his chronicle, his great and storied legend.

Some decent lore but didn’t like the narrator

Great origin story of Dante & some awesome insight into the chapter gene flaws but I personally didn’t like the narrator - his range of voices wasn’t good enough in my view and some of the characters just sounded.......silly.

Loved it and was sad when if finished

A great insite into Dante and the trials of the blood angles. Mixed current and old events up in his life well. Great tonewa about a space marine commander who has some compassion for all humanity rather than treating them as expendable. That was refreshing.

All exceptional.

However the narrator's over pronunciation started to grate. He's almost too good, we don't need Shakespearian quality, the BA sound like old bureaucrats more than angelic warriors. Nevertheless the talent is undeniable.

Good story, good voice actor.

The story has depth, there are glimpses to the deep lore of W40K, there is character evolution and complexity. This is well above average quality in the W40k library.

Amazing

Such a good book even if you’re not a blood angel fan, the story of Dante is a fantastic one at that! The voice actor brings Dante to life in a way that many could not.

The perfect introduction to Dante and the Blood Angels

The perfect book for me personally thick with lore, every character has been well fleshed out with the perfect amount of action. This is by far my favourite book of all time and I have listened to and read many, could not recommend it more to anyone looking for an introduction into the Blood Angels.

A genuine hero in a universe of grim.

Dante is such an endearing character despite the hellish universe he exists in. The book also delves into the Blood Angels lore and the path to becoming a space marine more comprehensively than most other books. Which is the real meat of it. The change from when Dante is a child in awe of the godly Asterties to his eventual leadership of them is compelling and weirdly... warm and heartfelt. He never loses himself. He just does the best he can in the situation hes in. It honestly is a great listen. And as always, Gareth Armstrong IS the Blood Angels. I find his hopeful yet sorrowful tones to be a perfect match for the troubled sons of Sanguinius.

Well, it's Dante.

No need for words really, it's Dante's origin and that alone makes it worth it but damn it's indeed a fine book too.
