Summary

Vivian is a cosmopolitan Taiwanese American tourist who often escapes her busy life in London through adventure and travel. Johnny is a 15-year-old Irish teenager living a neglected life on the margins of society.

On a bright spring afternoon in West Belfast, their paths collide during a horrifying act of violence.

Inspired by true events, this is a story of the dark chapters and chance encounters that can irrevocably determine the shape of our lives.

Gripping, thought provoking and inspiring

Winnie writes about something so deeply personal and yet something any one of us could experience and unfortunately many have. She holds the two storylines of the perpetrator and the survivor with such compassion, which along with her gripping writing, helps us understand how such an horrific crime could occur and gracefully shows how we might start to heal a society that cultivates such behaviours and those who are subjected to it.
Thank you for writing this. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading complicit.

Interesting and relevant story

Enjoyment was slightly marred by the appalling accent s when the female narrator spoke words of Irish characters.,this really distracted me from an otherwise compelling story told with empathy.
